Tereza Salgueiro was born in 8th January 1969 in Lisbon. In 1986, only 17, she joins the most famous Portuguese band of all times – Madredeus. Between 1987 and 2007 Madredeus recorded more than 13 award winning albums and sold more than 5 million records around the world.
In 2006, Tereza releases the album “Obrigado”, a tribute to singers, composers and authors who worked with her along her 20 year old career.
In 2007, Tereza begins a solo career with two projects , musically different from each others, demonstrating the versatility of her voice. In “Você e Eu”, Tereza sings a range of songs from the Brazilian popular music and Bossa Nova. “La Serena” presents songs in many different languages and styles: Sephardic songs from the 16th century, Portuguese, Italian, French, Angolan, Cape Verdean, Brazilian, Mexican and Argentinean songs from the 20th century. In the same year “Silence, Night and Dreams” is released. A project from the composer Zbigniew Preisner in witch Tereza was invited to be lead singer.
In 30th July 2008 Tereza performed at San Carlo Theatre in Naples invited by the Solis String Quartet to sing a range of Napolitan songs .
MATRIZ, the most recent project of Tereza Salgueiro with Lusitânia Ensemble, will be released on March 30th. By the musical direction of Jorge Varrecoso Gonçalves, this new project is a route through the Portuguese music, from the medieval times to present times. It begins with ancient music, going through popular and traditional music, Fado, ending with songs from portuguese authors like Fausto, Fernando Lopes Graça and Carlos Paredes.
