Bio
Terror Bird began as the solo project of Nikki Never five years ago in Montreal. Fuelled by a break-up and lack of her former band Automatic Fancy, Nikki began writing mopey songs using her roommate's acoustic guitar and electric piano. Her roommate complained that she was putting her spirit into his instruments, which she guesses messed up their sweet vibes.
Broke and depressed, Nikki moved back to Vancouver to live with her mother. Much to her mother's dismay, her 20-year-old daughter bought an organ for $40 at the Langley value village and somehow hauled it into her tiny condo. These were jobless days, and for fun, Nikki would write songs on the organ and clean obsessively while her mother went to work. Neighbors commented on "weird music" coming out of the condo. To entertain herself, Nikki made weekend trips to Vancouver bars to see bands she liked. During these trips, she became closer to Jeremiah Haywood. She got a job as a busgirl at a fancy restaurant in Vancouver, so that she could escape from the suburbs once again.
She and Jeremiah began a relationship and a band, called Modern Creatures and eventually started living together before becoming man and wife in Reno during a tour. Nikki played a few shows by herself in 2006, with her 4 track as her backing band. But, she lacked the confidence to be a solo performer and asked Jeremiah to join Terror Bird. He started on drums and she began playing her Casio keyboard at shows.
Third members came and went. Jesse Taylor (of Twin Crystals and Channels 3 & 4) was in the band for about a month, while Daniel Pitout (Nu Sensae, Eating Out, Adult Books) was in the band for two years. Daniel eventually decided to focus more on Nu Sensae and could not tour with Terror Bird, which made the members sad but also happy that Daniel was finding success with his original band. Daniel did one tour of the USA with Terror Bird. He played drums during the first portion and keyboards during the second.
Nikki Never went on a solo European tour for a month and a half in the summer of 2010, visiting Germany, Austria, France, Croatia, Italy, Czech Republic, and Luxembourg. The "Human Culture" LP was late coming out, so she sold CDrs and "Shadows in the Halls" 7 inches as well as the final copies of her "Shame is on Your Side" 7 inch.
Finally, Bianca Karre joined for Terror Bird's second tour to Europe in early 2011. Together, the trio toured for 3 weeks with Bianca and Nikki on keys, and Jeremiah on drums. Bianca had to go back to work, and so Jeremiah and Nikki continued in various forms for two more months. On this tour, they were promoting the release of their first LP, "Human Culture" as well as 3 new 7 inches, "Waiting for Nothing", "Outside", and "Who's Sorry Now?"
