Terry Gomes

BandPopFolk

Folk-rock, pop and country, with a musical surprise or two. Catchy, melodic, guitar-based tunes and lyrics that linger in the mind. Often humorous, often introspective, but always with a human touch.

Biography

Canadian songwriter and guitarist Terry Gomes has just released his first commercially available compilation CD, GOMESONGS SIDE A.

For several years now, Terry has written, arranged and performed the music and lyrics on six self-produced demo CDs that he submitted to publishers. The songs were a mix of pop, folk, rock, and country. For many of these, he hired local artists, both male and female, to sing, but he himself played all instrumental parts except for percussion.

Now, Terry has gone back to this previous work and chosen songs that were accepted by American publishers, and songs that people have enjoyed. These songs have been professionally remixed and remastered for this, the first of two compilation CDs, GOMESONGS SIDE A.

In his lyrics, Terry likes to explore a variety of moods and topics. Many of the songs are humorous and upbeat; many are introspective and thoughtful. Some of them twist and turn in unexpected ways and often involve some sort of social commentary. Yet no matter how many different approaches he takes in his words and music, he always sounds like himself.

But what does that mean to you, the listener? On this compilation, GOMESONGS SIDE A, you will hear songs that might bring to mind the fluid guitar sounds of Dire Straits, the humor and fun of the Bare Naked Ladies, the catchy melodies of the Beatles, the thoughtful story songs of Paul Simon, the assertive female country of Shania Twain, and more.

If you like the songs of Terry Gomes, please keep in mind that SIDE B is in the works -- and after that, expect a CD of all new material, LOOSE ENDS.

SEA FOAM GREEN

Written By: TERRY GOMES

We bought a house, a bungalow
She wanted it done by Art Deco
Who is he, I never heard of Art
We can get it done by Wal Mart

Will we do it in blue?
(So morose a hue)
Will we do it in red?
(Too bold she said)
How ‘bout white
(A little too trite)
What do you want to do?
She wanted

Sea foam green
Now what the hell does that mean?
I’m a simple guy
Who sees it black or white
I don’t know much but I know what I like

Well she hit the roof and almost me
She chose to agree to disagree
She made up our mind though I tried to nudge
But it was clear that she wasn’t gonna budge

Can we do it in black?
(It’s taste you lack)
Can we do it in yellow?
(It’s not a bordello)
How ‘bout brown?
(It’ll look rundown)
What do you want to do?
She demanded

Sea foam green
Now what the hell does that mean?
I’m a simple guy
Who sees it black or white
I don’t know much but I know what I like

The battle ended after many days
It was her way, my way, the highway
Now I got another girl, a home to buy
And we both see things dye to dye

Will we do it in taupe?
(Nope!)
Will we do it in teal?
(Get real!)
How about wine?
(Have we lost our minds?)
We know what to do--
Nothing weird like

Sea foam green
Whatever the hell that means
We’re the simple kind
Who see it black or white
We don’t know much but we know what we like

NOW IS THE TIME

Written By: TERRY GOMES

Don’t you wait
Til it’s too late
Start making plans
No one knows
What life throws
Catch it while you can
There’s no better time than now
There’s no better time than now
Now is the time

Now is the time to live your life
Oh now is the time to live
Now is the time to live your life
Oh now is the time to live (2X)

Many say
That some day
They’ll have the time
But time is better made
Not delayed
Tomorrow’s been known to lie
There’s no better time than now
Now is the time

Chorus

Repeat Verse 1

There’s no better time than now
Now is the time

Chorus 2X

LEYANNA

Written By: TERRY GOMES

Leyanna’s got a bun in the oven
Looks like she has had a little lovin’
Just a bit o’ pushin’ an a shovin’
She ain’t old enough to be a woman

She’s just a kid, just a kid
Doesn’t really matter what she did
The government gonna pay her rent
Give her lots of money too–to spend (Leyanna......)

Well it’s okay, it’s okay
She party every night and every day
She be free o’ responsibility
Her mama & her papa gonna raise de baby (Leyanna...and she ain’t old enough to be a woman.)

Who’s to blame? (Not society)
Who’s to blame? (Not her family)
Leyanna and her boy are only kids too an’ they didn’t know what they were doin’ (Leyanna......)

One year later, one year to date
Mother and baby are doing great
It’s not the end of this lament ‘cause Leyanna has another announcement

Who will pay? (Society)
Who will pay? (Her family)
Who will pay? (Maybe baby)
What’s left to say you can foresee

Now baby’s got a bun in the oven
Leyanna never warned her ‘bout the lovin’
Why is de girl a pushin’ and a shovin’
When she ain’t old enough to be a woman
And she ain’t old enough to drink in a bar
And she ain’t old enough to drive a car
And she ain’t old enough for da schoolin’
She barely old enough to be droolin’ (Oh, ah, oh, ah......oh yeah.........)
