Bio

"Drifting . . . Not aimless, not lost, but a purposeful quietness, reconnecting with oneself through the music; peaceful and soul-stirring guitar instrumentals in the style of Leo Kottke, Don Ross and Bruce Cockburn to get you there."

Terry has been playing solo acoustic guitar for more than 20 years. Prominent influences on his style have been the instrumental music of Bruce Cockburn, Leo Kottke and Don Ross. His current compositions show a leaning toward folk and blues with an emphasis on finger-style playing.

Highlights of his music career have included: showcases at the North by Northeast Music Festival in Toronto in June of 2000, June of 2002 and June of 2007, and at the Canadian Music Week Festival in Toronto in 2001; opening for Connie Kaldor at the Vital Spark Folk Club in Brooklin in November of 2002; performing as a featured artist at the Southern Ontario Fingerstyle Guitar Association in Hamilton in March of 2004 and February of 2005; competing at the Canadian Fingerstyle Guitar Competition in Odessa in July of 2006; and performing at the Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association's compilation CD release in August of 2006.

Terry has been following up his appearances at Canadian Music Week and NXNE with shows at the Rendezvous Restaurant in Ajax, the Bayly Restaurant in Ajax, and sixty-six-on-brock in Uxbridge. He has also been performing at the many excellent open mike nights at The Village Inn in Bowmanville, the Renaissance Cafe in Toronto, The Down 'Omer in Oshawa, the Bayly Restaurant in Ajax, the TFGA in Toronto, and at SOFGA in Hamilton.

Terry is a member of the Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association, an association that promotes the art of fingerstyle guitar through open mike nights, guitar workshops and concerts. Terry is also one of the principal members responsible for founding and running the Pickering-Ajax Guitar Association, which sponsors open mikes, workshops and concerts to further the spread of folk guitar in Durham Region east of Toronto.

A particular highlight of the work of the PAGA was its sponsoring of a concert benefit in October of 2005 to aid the victims of Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans. Terry looked after most aspects of promotion for the event, including an appearance on Rogers Cable TV prior to the concert. Terry also performed at the concert.

One of Terry's compositions, Blackout Night Sky, has been featured on three CD compilations: one for the Southern Ontario Fingerstyle Guitar Association, one for the Toronto Fingerstyle Guitar Association, and one for the Leo Kottke News Group.

Terry has recently completed a CD of instrumental acoustic guitar music, "For William: Songs He Never Heard", selections from which are on his web site: http://www.terryhart.ca . He can be contacted via his website as well.
