Inundated with the strong desire to write and record original material; Terry Power has been performing for a decade at pubs, parties, and campfires across Canada. Growing up in Newfoundland, and Ontario, he now calls Vancouver home where he studied audio engineering to further hone his craft. Many of his influences both musically and lyrically have come from meeting and playing with loads of talented musicians who pass through tree planting camps in northern Canada.

Madamfo

Madamfo words by Terry Power

I walk on heated asphalt; I walk on heated asphalt
Steamy urban fall out; Steamy urban sprawl out
My hair is messy shoved up; my hair is greasy fucked up
My jeans are soiled and worn out; my jeans are drooping bagged out

Hey you don't I know you; yeah you don't I know you
Brown eyes and blue babushka; Brown eyes and blue babushka
I met you on the Greyhound; I met you on the Greyhound
Soft-spoken Spanish beauty; soft spoken Spanish beauty

And the orange starburst sunset is sitting in my eyes
I look around and I'm in my best disguise
Something like good news is floating on the breeze
She melts in the crowd and I fall back on me

Get on the bus and lightly roll; Get on the bus and lightly roll
Hoya me fe hey Madamf;,Hoya me fe hey Madamfo
Oopee num pa, mabu ana w;,Oopee num pa, mabu ana wo
Hoya me fe hey Madamf;,Hoya me fe hey Madamfo

Hey you don't I know you; yeah you don't I know you
Brown eyes and blue babushka; Brown eyes and blue babushka
I met you on the Greyhound; I met you on the Greyhound
Soft-spoken Spanish beauty; soft spoken Spanish beauty

And the orange starburst sunset is sitting in my eyes
I look around and I'm in my best disguise
Something like good news is floating on the breeze
She melts in the crowd and I fall back on me

*The words in italics are of a West African language spoken by my tree-planting friends from Ghana. I'm pretty sure my pronunciation leaves something to be desired but they roughly trans late into:

You are beautiful to me my good friend; you are beautiful to me my good friend
Do you like music, I will play, do you like music, I will play
You are beautiful to me my good friend; you are beautiful to me my good friend

The song was inspired when returning home by bus after a long season of tree planting in Northern Canada

Taste the Winds

Taste The Winds Terry Power

You’re sitting in the kitchen and your drinking all the time
I don't know why I bother or where the time I find
What am I supposed to say when the cops are at the door?
I just can't put up with your shenanigans anymore

Heard you were out last Friday, feller seen you in a fight
Coming home with bloody knuckles boy you looked a sight
You came home the other day without your pay
Boy if your father were here this is what he'd say

Aye yeay aye yeay aye yeay aye
Take a taste of the winds boy don't be afraid to see
Where it is your coming from and where you ought to be
Aye yeay aye yeay aye yeay aye
Take a taste of the winds boy don't fear to understand
Grow yourself some wings and come home to Newfoundland

Won't you come home don't leave me alone
Won't you come home don't leave me alone

I see you sitting there wringing your hands with guilt
You don't know what to do or how this mess you've built
If you could only see what it is you do to me
You'd get your act together and get off this drunken spree

You’re spending all your money on cards, women, wine and song
And if you keep it up boy you won't be here too long
One of these days the good Lord is going to put you in your grave
And for all your bloody tricks you haven't a soul to save

Aye yeay aye yeay aye yeay aye
Take a taste of the winds boy don't be afraid to see
Where it is your coming from and where you ought to be
Aye yeay aye yeay aye yeay aye
Take a taste of the winds boy don't fear to understand
Grow yourself some wings and come home to Newfoundland
