Bio

Founded by Tessa Lena, a Russian classical pianist and Riot Grrl provocateur, Tessa Makes Love is her new project featuring musical heavyweights Ian Macdonald (King Crimson) and Ron Thaler (Sarah McLachlan, Alicia Keys).

First sign of her power came in the Chicago outfit Schizowave, Lena was cast as the antidote to the packaged pop divettes of the time. Her three-octave vocal range, angst-ridden lyrics and her propensity to shock interviewers, quickly made her a voice that couldn’t be ignored and a force that was undeniable.

Ian McDonald is the English multi-instrumental musician, best known as a founding member of progressive rock group King Crimson, and of the hard rock band Foreigner. He is well known as a rock session musician, predominantly as a saxophonist. His virtuosity of flute, vibraphone, keyboards and guitar on this new project adds textures that cause the songs to surge and literally lunge at you.

Ron Thaler, internationally recognized for his "exhaustively innovative drumming" (NYTimes), has been featured on more than 400 album recordings. Ron’s career spans a wide range of styles and disciplines. He has performed and recorded with platinum charting artists including Sarah McLachlan and Alicia Keys.

Tessa Makes Love, featuring Lena's melodically and rhythmically intricate songs, strong piano work, and achingly confessional lyrics, with the musical pedigree of Thaler and McDonald yield an ambitious debut that is political, confrontational, inspired and entirely new.

Recently Tessa Makes Love went into the studio with producer David Maurice (Jay Z, Garbage) to record their debut single Spente Le Stelle. Along with the accompanying video, both being released worldwide in October, the result is a sonically diverse, visually striking, one-two punch. A mix of trance inducing, often erotic assault of the senses, arriving in an eclectic package of sight and sound.
