"Album Of The Day"

Turn your FM radio on right now and flip yourself up and down the dial. Like the old lady from those old commercials imploring you to find the beef, I'm sitting here asking, "Where's the rock?" I'm not talking the same five Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Journey songs over and over again. (We here in CT, especially, have had enough of that thank you very much.) College radio gets it. They always have. But even with college radio you sometimes need to sift through countless hours of various forms of world music, jazz and classical (no offense to any of those fine genres) before you hear something electric guitar driven. The Metal world has been going through their own phenomenal rock revival for years now with dozens upon dozens of bands doing their best Black Sabbath, Deep Purple and Blue Cheer impersonations. But outside of the occasional Queens of the Stone Age or Soundgarden reunion you're going to be hard-pressed to find really good, well written, well performed rock n' roll in the mainstream music world. So we are once again looking to the underground to show us the way and Hartford's Tetramer is throwing their hat in the rock ring with gusto.

Tetramer was formerly known as Superart as recently as a year ago. But a name change, the addition of two new permanent members and an EP later Tetramer is ready to really make their mark on the CT music scene and hopefully beyond. I specifically mentioned Soundgarden and Queens of the Stone Age above because those are probably the closest benchmarks you'd have to give to the uninitiated. However Tertramer held my interest through five solid tracks where QOTSA hasn't been able to do that for years and this band was always more about the instrumentation and creative song structures in ways Soundgarden never was.

But the one thing that unites all three of those bands is the ability to write fist-pumping, head-bobbing, riff-driven, rock n' roll that alternates with more passive and reflective interludes. Tetramer have crafted a five-song EP that truly focuses on all of the band's strengths. Vocal duties are once again split between Marc Gillig and Jerry Burrus as each takes turns hitting every note with perfect delivery. The guitar playing is inspired and the (somewhat) newly cemented rhythm section adds meat to the bones where they might otherwise remain a bit bare with situational players. Simply put this is a rock record that is accessible to a wide swath of the music buying population. Catchy as hell but certainly not in the simplistic way that most bands unintentionally lower themselves to.

"Album Of The Day - 2/8/12 Superart - "The Weirdbeard Sessions""

Connecticut loses bands to other scenes sometimes but sometimes we gain them back. That's a good thing. One of those bands we got back is Superart.

Superart was, at one point, stationed down in Georgia and went by the name Weirdbeard. They are back in CT though with a new drummer and a new album entitled The Weirdbeard Sessions released originally in 2010. I have to say it's refreshing to see a band come back to CT and add something to an already robust scene.

So what does this band sound like? Well upon first listen there are a handful of influences that automatically strike me - Queens of the Stone Age, early Soundgarden, Alice In Chains, etc. This band combines nice big, fat chunky riffs with melodic harmonized vocals in a way that's completely unpretentious. That's not to say that this isn't accessible to fans of "modern rock" (ugh, two words when combined make me throw up in my mouth a little bit) because it's not overly brutal in its heaviness. But there's enough actual rock on this record that fans of stoner rock and other forms of true independent rock music can get behind it as well. - www.CT.com Chip McCabe

"Superart Podcast"

Welcome and Happy Holidays Everyone!! Tonight we have an amazing band out of Hartford Connecticut called "SUPERART" We spoke with Jerry from the band and discussed the history, writing process and their debut CD entitled "The Weirdbeard Sessions". - David Vignola - Vision Recording Studios

"Superart - "The Weirdbeard Sessions""

It’s not everyday that you hear an album where one song is as good as the next. It’s also not everyday that you hear a band that has three lead singers & three songwriters along with each of them being multi-instrumentalists. Actually, let’s be honest; this is extremely rare in today’s music world. Superart is definitely breaking the mold with their new record The Weirdbeard Sessions.

This band actually started as Weirdbeard that featured musicians Jerry Burrus and Ehren Gleckler. The duo would later add Marc Gillig and Superart was born! There is no looking back for this group as their defining sound will grab your attention without question. What you will hear on this disc can best be described as “three-rock-bands-in-one”.

Sharing roles is what Superart is all about as Burrus handles vocals, guitar, drums & bass, Gillig takes care of vocals, piano, keyboards, guitar & bass and Gleckler supplies vocals, guitar, drums & bass. The amazing part for me is how each member has his own unique style, but they fit it all together perfectly.

Right from the get-go on the opening track “Broken Bones”, I am hooked. As the record rolls along, I’m simply lovin’ the all-out rock feel. You can sense that the trio knows exactly what they want and what they are going for. Superart nail it on all levels as they prove to be very serious music artists. The music here really speaks for itself as you will be amazed by the all-around group effort & camaraderie. Besides the cool rock feel, I also picked up on some awesome guitar riffs, great vocal performances by all three men and key melodies. The melodies really stand out as being a strong presence as it proves that rock is not the only core element here. Superart is a melodic rock band with alternative influence and I am so impressed with this group and their new album. Particularly on song 11, “A.D.”, Superart is bringin’ intensity & energy that can not be denied. This was one of my favorite songs on the record but honestly there wasn’t a single track I didn’t like. The Weirdbeard Sessions is the total package my friends as these three band-mates have literally created a work of art.

I can’t say enough good things about this Connecticut-based band, so why stop now! Throughout the entire 12-track recording, you can tell that Jerry, Ehren and Marc were feelin’ it from beginning to end. Superart comes with a sound that is hard not to like and catchy as hell. Superart brings a refreshing and much needed change to the music scene. We need to filter out the heavy mass of CRAP that saturates our so-called Popular music market/airwaves. Hopefully this is a start of good things to come; thank you Superart! Go buy Weirdbeard Sessions NOW; you will not regret it! - www.skopemag.com
