Feeling a bit camera shy

Rooted in the San Francisco soul scene of the 70's, Guitarist Stephen Gordon or "Unk" as he's know in todays hip-hop circles, grew up under the influence of many of the great soul musicians and innovators ever. Along with the blessings of Growing up in a musical family, his father a session jazz drummer and his brother a manager for groups like Sly and the Family Stone, Earth Wind & Fire, and Tower of Power, Steve was blessed with perfect pitch. At an early age Steve began working as a song developer for Motown. Working at one of their studios based in the Bay Area, Steve caught the attention of many established artists and has worked and toured with groups such as The Imperials, Rick James, Teena Marie, and many others. Today, Steve has translated his talent and experience into a very developed sense of song arrangement which is enhanced by his impressive guitar and keyboard skills.

Steve Gordon and Lak Davinci met in late 2006 by chance while session times overlapped at a recording studio in Northern California that they both had booked time at individually. Davinci, a former rapper turned producer with multiple independent hip-hop, r&b, and neo soul albums and recordings to his credit, specializes in modern hip/hop production respectfully in the fashion of J-Dilla (RIP), Kanye West, Hi-Tek, Dj Premeire, and Pete Rock, yet has developed a distinctive style that stands out as his alone that he dubs "melodious thunk", a blend of east coast drums and creative use of samples combined with the melodic, bass driven west coast sound.

Combined, "Uncle" Steve Gordon and Lak Davinci form a chemistry akin to that of established producers such as The Neptunes or Kanye West and John Legend. As Tha Growroom they create a fusion of classic soul and r&B structures and classic sound, held within the grittiness and edge of a modern hip-hop format. Within a relatively short time, less than a year, Tha Growroom has compiled an impressive catalog of polished songs, as virtually every time Davinci and Unk get together to do a track, instant vintage modern classic music begins to pour from the speakers.
