"Album Review"

"A plausible album that's well worth a listen."

1. Palace of Love
2. Anybody seen my Angel ?
3. Rock Mama
4. Walls
5. Roller coaster Love
6. Eponina
7. Anybody seen my Angel (Acoustic)
8. Bayou
9. Kyrie

An artist that’s gaining more and more respect from the scene these days is Toronto native, Guyanan born singer – songwriter Thane St. Andrew. His 9 track debut album, Palace of Love collects some of his personal compositions and carry a relaxing, poppy, soulful vibe.

First extracted single is the CD’s title track and delivers a substantial soul jam, built on a melody that sticks in your head. Thane’s voice is often compared to artists such as Seal or Roachford and the timbre indeed, heads towards these stars. Thane’s pipes though still have a progression margin to grow. The vocals fit the style, no doubt, but some do sound a little bit brittle. Anyway … this certainly isn’t disturbing or doesn’t dominate the sensation.

Musically, Palace of Love certainly is above average. Nothing really original but of a good quality. I myself like Thane best in his slow jams. Anybody seen my Angel or Walls for example both turn out to be beautiful, vulnerable tracks and prove the capacities of Thane as a composer.

For me, personally, Thane St. Andrew’s tracks have been mixed a bit too clean. This kind of soul music needs a bit of a raw undertone to surpass the genre.

Palace of Love however certainly is a plausible album and is well worth a listen.

"Indiemix Radio Artist Review"

Thane St. Andrew – “Roller Coaster Love”

Great mix of moods and tones. Quick and consistent guitar riffs pump all kinds of energy making this a fun, summery, finger snappin’ pop song that’s not processed. Paired perfectly with a steady bass line and crashing drums. Thane metaphorically compares his love and life to rides at an entertainment park thus the name of the song “Roller Coaster Love.” You won’t be able to get the hook out of your head.

"New Artist Spotlight: Thane St. Andrew"

Q. There are people that don’t know you in the Netherlands so can you please introduce yourself? Where are you from? What kind of music do you
make?

A. Well, first let me give a shout out to the Netherlands! My name is Thane St. Andrew. I'm a pop-soul singer-songwriter from Toronto, Canada. I was actually born in Guyana, South America and grew up in Calgary. I've been living in Toronto for about the past 6 years.
My music is influenced by a wide range of genres but I would classify it as a fusion of pop and neo-soul. Some people have compared it to music by artists like John Legend which is a huge compliment. I try to combine different genres including pop, rock, soul, R&B, jazz, roots into
a style that's uniquely my own.

Q. What inspired you to pursue a career as a singer?

A. I sang in choirs for several years which formed a really good musical base and my move to Toronto gave me an opportunity to explore my
own creative direction. Music has always been a major part of my life. There are so many great artists that I admire and a chance to be part of a community of people making music that inspires others was a tremendous draw for me.

Q. If you had the chance to sing with ANYBODY you like.. which artist would that be?

A. Wow - great question. I would love to perform with a musical great like Celine Dion.

Q. How do you feel about music in general today?

A. I think there are a lot of great artists out there but there's also a lot of pre-packaged synthetic music lacking in good lyrics and real
creative inspiration. This may be why consumers aren't buying CDs as much as they used to which is a shame. There are so many
undiscovered artists that deserve a wider forum to be heard. I hope that we'll continue to see a rise in indie talent filtering into mainstream
consciousness.

Q. Who do you think is the best female and male vocalist? Recent or otherwise?

A. There are so many - it's hard to pick just one. From the past, I really admire Nina Simone. For today, I would say Beyonce. I also love Jully Black whose from right here in Toronto. For men, I would have to say that Andrea Boccelli has one of the greatest voices out there today. Also John Legend, he's really smooth - great sound and has a lot of class.

Q. So, I heard you were into sneakers. What kind of sneakers do you rock? And do you have any cool sneakers on your wish list?

A. I'm actually into shoes in general but I have a really cool pair of sneakers from ALDO. They're a muted lime green colour. ALDO has a great line of sneakers in funky styles and colours.

Q. What is your main focus in the future? Is there an album in the making?

A. My main focus is to reach out to new fans and get my music out there. The album is set to drop in the next few months and I'm really
excited about it. We're working on the final song right now. More info will be posted about it as it gets closer to the release so check out
www.thanestandrew.com for future news.

Q. Are you currently only performing in Toronto? Can we see you here in Europe in the future for maybe a short tour?

A. Currently performing mostly in Toronto and have sang in Calgary and Montreal. I would love to visit Europe in the future. I've vacationed in Italy and the UK in the past so a chance to build up a fanbase on that continent and bring my act some day would be amazing! I have actually
had my track Anybody Seen My Angel played on podcasts in the Netherlands and Germany and now this interview so the reception in Europe has been very positive.

"For Immediate Release"

TORONTO, Ontario (September 18, 2008) – Toronto neo-soul singer-songwriter Thane St. Andrew may be a fresh face in the Canadian music scene but solid songwriting and passionate delivery on his debut album, Palace of Love, prove he plans to be a permanent fixture.

“Some of today’s R&B music has gone in the direction of style over substance but I wanted to create music that still delivers the ear candy but with a renewed focus on lyric and songwriting and that’s what sets my music apart,” says Thane. “I am striving to be an artist with longevity and feel that this album reflects that.”

From the hypnotically soulful grooves of title anthem Palace of Love, to the rock-gospel tinged Rock Mama, to the velvety smooth vocal stylings of Anybody Seen My Angel (Acoustic), this album is sure to delight even the most critical of soul music purists but with enough crossover sensibility to appeal to popular music fans.

Often compared to neo-soul artists such as Maxwell and John Legend, Thane’s vocals have been described as rich, earthy and soulful with influences including John Legend, Lionel Richie, Alana Davis, Seal, and Boyz II Men.
The album’s tracks were graced by the production skills of Listen Without Borders producer Ari Gajraj and Vikas Kohli of Fatlabs where Thane worked with musicians who have performed and recorded with music acts such as Fefe Dobson and Kazzer.

Ari describes Thane as "a sincerely gifted song-writer with a voice thick with soul and passion. Thane's songs are truly timeless, classics of lyric and melody that sound as relevant today as they will twenty years from now." Ari was also pleased to have worked with Thane on co-writing the album’s final track Kyrie which speaks to world issues such as poverty, social injustice, and the AIDS health crisis. Full proceeds from digital downloads of the track will be donated to World Vision along with partial proceeds of live album sales at select shows. Thane feels that “as artists and human beings, we have a level of social responsibility to try to make a difference.”

Thane’s tracks have shown early signs of success through the airwaves on Indie Mix Radio AM 1580 and iRadio LA 104.7FM both broadcast from Los Angeles, California and Palace of Love has charted in the Top 30 on Toronto’s CHRY 105.5FM. Songs will soon be made available to national and international radio stations through DMDS.

Palace of Love is an independent release by Thane’s self-made label Empire of Soul Records and is now available online through CD Baby and coming soon to other sites including Amazon, Napster and iTunes. Fans can also purchase the album at live shows and download MP3 tracks from Thane’s official artist site www.thanestandrew.com.

The official Debut CD Release Party is at 8pm, October 1, 2008 at trendy Toronto hotspot, Kokkino Lounge (414 Danforth Ave).
