"Featured Artist International Acoustic Music Awards"

Los Angeles area singer-songwriter that goes by the name of "That Girl Laura", displays beautiful and sensitive vocals on her live performance of "Stand Still", with acoustic piano and cello. Few recordings we hear these days feature live performances. This shows that Laura has the courage to have her live performance recorded as artists these days prefer studio produced songs. Fans of Tori Amos and Bjork will appreciate her music and artistry.

RATING: **** (4.5 out of 5 Stars)

Laura is a contemporary singer/songwriter who plays guitar and keyboards. . Among her recent credits, Laura sang on The Power of Few, a movie starring Christopher Walken and Christian Slater.  Laura trained at the Berklee College of Music, Boston Conservatory, and Idyllwild School of Music and the Arts. Laura earned her B.A. in vocal performance and songwriting from Berklee, winning several contests there as a songwriter and performer. Coffeehouses of New England were her performing/training ground. In the past few years, she has performed in Europe and toured in festivals, colleges, clubs, coffeehouses and churches throughout America.

Her performances and songs illustrate the spirit, integrity, and lifestyle that she willingly shares with her audience. Laura's voice captivates people of all ages and walks of life, as they inherently recognize that the songs she sings are coming straight from her heart. Laura is committed to writing and performing songs that matter. She blends this focus with creativity, wisdom, and a distinct vocal quality revealed in a stage presence that is both relaxed and magnetic. Laura has a unique voice and style that is hard to define, but she has been compared to Karen Carpenter, Sheryl Crow, Tori Amos, Shawn Colvin, and Joni Mitchell.

While in her teens, she sang backup and performed in the concept album and video, Superstition Gold, which aired on TNN. Her early training in theater and voice has earned starring roles in musicals (such as the lead in Cinderella) in local and regional theater.

Laura has performed as an Official Showcase Artist for Southwest Regional Folk Alliance (Austin Texas), Give Into the Groove in the Bluegrass Festival (Kentucky), North Hollywood Arts Festival, The Midwest Music & Film Festival, the Temecula Film & Music Festival, and Spudfest Film and Music Festival. She has showcased her talents at the NACA (National Association for Campus Activities) Heart of America Regional Conference and the APCA (Association for the Promotion of Campus Activities) National Conference.

She has also showcased at the Atlantis Music Festival, Nashville New Music Festival and Conference (2NMC), where she was included on the compilation CD, the Music Mentor Conference, the USA Songwriting Competition Showcase (in San Francisco and Torrance, CA), and at the Knitting Factory in L.A., sponsored by Fender Guitars. Laura was selected in the "Follow Your Dreams" (CD Compilation) and Sounds Like CafeVolume 18 (Compilation CD).

Laura recently won First place in the LA Performing Songwriters Bootcamp Finals competition. By winning she received a full paid tuition scholarship to this Bootcamp. She was part of the Mr. Smith Songwriting Expo at Highland Grounds in Hollywood, CA. Two of Laura's songs received a finalist award in Unisong's Songwriting Competition. Laura was chosen as Nominee for the Toronto Exclusive Music Awards and the Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards (Online). She was also chosen as a finalist for Battle of the Bands Annual Competition (Firefly Recording Studios - Boston, MA). Laura is currently working on her new CD.
