Bio

Known for his eccentric look and equally esoteric style, producer That Purple Bastard (Purple Bastard, for short) has been turning heads both in his Houston hometown and on blogs worldwide. Born Cole Clary; the long-bearded, silver-fanged producer is perhaps best known for his weekly remix series, #RemixWednesday in which he drops a new remix of a popular song or artist every single week, steeped in his own brand of Southern psychedelia. Throughout the series, the Bastard has remixed everyone from Danny Brown to local favorites like Z-Ro, garnering posts on noteworthy blogs such as White Folks Get Crunk, Surviving the Golden Age, Hypetrak, Yappari Hip Hop, and many more. Furthermore, his extensive work has earned him the honorary title of “Remix King” both among his peers and local media outlets such as Village Voice affiliate Houston Press.

#AllBastardEverything is the mantra of the man who has at various times in his career acted as a DJ, producer, remixer, mixing & mastering engineer, promoter, and graphic designer. #AllBastardEverything, the Bastard version of the Wagner-coined “Gesamtkunstwerk” (meaning “Total-Artwork”), refers not only to his versatility as an artist, but also to the fact that he insists on doing everything himself when releasing a piece of music from the initial mix all the way to the album cover of a particular release to insure the highest level of authenticity. Furthermore, it refers to the wide proliferation of his brand; the signature “beard, glasses, fangs” logo (an abstraction of his own face) can be found virtually everywhere, from the covers of every release to stencils and stickers on sidewalks and signposts.
