"Interview – The A.M. Resolution"

Ottawa, ON based Indie Folk Rock band, The A.M. Resolution is about to release their debut single a bit later this month and I thought it would be fun to give you all a brief introduction to this up & coming band. I had the chance to ask them a few questions about how they formed, what’s to come and so much more. - Jenna Melanson

"New Singles from The A.M. Resolution"

When I met up with Ottawa band The A.M. Resolution last June, the folk-rock duo was about to enter the studio to record their first songs as a band. These songs have now been released as an a-side and b-side track. “Now You Know” is a folk-rock tune about the perils of a rebound relationship, especially when you’re not quite ready to get back into the dating world. “Cowboy” has more of a grunge/alternative rock feel to it showcasing the band’s strong influence 1990s music. - Kristine St-Pierre

“Tired” is the latest from Ottawa indie folk rock outfit The A.M. Resolution. Think stripped down Audioslave circa “Like A Stone.” - Juliette Jagger

One on One with The A.M. Resolution
by Kristine St-Pierre

For Andrew Michelin, lead singer and songwriter for Ottawa folk-rock band The A.M Resolution, music has always been a passion. His high school days were spent writing songs and playing in different bands. Performing was new and fun, and it was exciting.

But after getting married and having children, Michelin had a hard choice to make: that of setting music aside and pursuing a more stable career. Still music was always at the back of his mind. After close to fifteen years away, Michelin decided to dust off his songs and start performing again. It was soon after that he and guitarist Darren Kooyman got together and The A.M. Resolution was born. The band is currently in the studio recording two songs, which they’ll release over the summer.

I met up with the folk-rock duo after a rehearsal in late May. The interview is below. - The Revue

"The A.M. Resolution pays tribute to the 1990’s on new single “Now You Know”"

“Now You Know” the latest single from Canadian band The A.M. Resolution is a track that erupts right from the start, and feels like a tribute to 90’s rock bands, mostly notably Nirvana, as front man Andrew Michelin sounds eerily similar to Kurt Cobain. Written after Michelin’s ten year marriage ended, “Now You Know” accurately describes the unknown when going into a rebound relationship after a long term commitment ends. Passionate and lively throughout the track, Michelin is a songwriter who knows how to put his thoughts and feelings into words without sounding to sappy, along with giving a performance that is refreshing and memorable. - Lauren Gribble

Still working on that hot first release.

They say that the music you first discover and fall in love with is the music that will stay with you for the rest of your life.
That’s true in the case of Singer/Songwriter Andrew Michelin of the indie folk rock band The A.M. Resolution. He comes out of the early 90’s alternative grunge era of rock n’ roll and like any Thirty something from that generation, he can still remember the exact moment he first heard Nirvana’s anthem "Smells like teen spirit" or Pearl Jam’s "Alive". You can definitely hear these influences in the music and vocal stylings of The A.M. Resolution, in songs like "Falling Man" and "Cowboy". The A.M. Resolution is a Canadian Band from Ottawa, Ontario. Spotlighting the best in original indie folk and alternative rock n’ roll through well crafted song writing and live performance. The group takes a less is more philosophy when it comes to creating their music which is steeped in melodic traditions that can be traced directly back to The Beatles. This helps make the songs accessible and radio friendly and the group understands both the importance of structure and the desirability of pop hooks, and repeatedly they deliver both.
“I want my songs to be heard, that’s why I write pop sounding tunes. I challenge myself to write songs that can be played on the radio.” Says Michelin.
In the early 90's while still in High School, Andrew was the lead singer of the alternative band Bufflehead which were very involved in the Ottawa music scene which eventually spread to their hometown of Almonte. Bufflehead and other local bands began organizing their own shows and booking bands to play on the bill with them. They brought in and played with bands such as The Gandharva's, Furnaceface, The Doughboys, Illegal Jazz Poets and Black Triangle.
After a long departure from the music scene because of seeking out other creative outlets throughout the years, Andrew is back with a new band consisting of lead guitarist and artist Darren Kooyman. Meeting at their mutual day
job, Andrew was one of the first people Darren got to know after moving to Ottawa from Vancouver. They are now determined more than ever to make a name for themselves in the music industry which will give them the opportunity to have a long and successful career.
