"The Minor Miracle that is The BlackSon Rising"

I get a lot of music. A LOT. So for an unsigned/indie artist like Black Son Rising to catch my ear means something. Flow, delivery, voice and ….content??? An 18 year old ???? (Still don’t believe you Myke.) Regardless its sounds good and feels relevant. In this day and age of publicity stunts, repetive terrestrial radio and lack of soul in urban music this is a treat. A minor miracle even. The capitalistic juggernaut that is America as seen through one very introspective kids eyes. Listen here. Thank me later. S/O to Tasha dammit.

"Music: The Black Son “The Black Son Rising” (EP)"

Hailing from Music City USA, Nashville, TN, the Black Son is slowly evolving into one of the most lyrically dense talents we’ve heard of south of the mason dixon. Despite being only 18 years old, The Black Son’s resume over the past year includes selling out 2 shows in his hometown and opening for the likes of Dom Kennedy, during his ‘Get Home Safely’ tour. For his latest initiative, the Black Son blesses an 8 track EP which is available below: - The Come Up Radio

"BlackSon’s ‘The BlackSon Rising’ Is Food-For-Thought"

Earlier this year, The BlackSon’s Soundcloud was highlighted in part due to an old friend. There was no “can you post this?” or any of the usual innuendos people use when attempting to find placement on TSS. Instead, it was more like, “Listen to this. Get back to me. Or don’t. No big deal.”

So I did. One track in, tough. Two, still tough. Three, wait a minute, there’s something going on here. By the time the seventh song ended, it was evident a gem had been stumbled upon. At this point, BlackSon aka Ghetto Jones and the team he assembled were prepping the release of a project set to drop later in the year.

The BlackSon Rising is the result.

Hailing from Nashville, Tennessee, Black’s introductory EP is dose of truth serum. A distinctive voice best described as Scarface meets Fat Trel and Rick Ross, Black’s inspirations date back to revolutionary names who cracked pavement decades before his own birth. Embedded in deliberate rhymes sprouts a grasp of the world more believable than many contemporaries in his age bracket. “Music City Militant,” “Rollin’ Stone,” “Wiretaps” and “360” prove to be standouts making Black’s 31-minute audio trip somehow a trichotomy of aggressiveness, quarrelsomeness and therapy.

Then you realize Black’s not even 20-years-old yet. And the cohesiveness The BlackSon Rising taps into another level of flair that previously ceased to exist. - The Smoking Section

"The Black Son x ‘The Black Son Rising’ EP"

18 year old recording artist The Black Son is one of the most lyrical hidden talents the Rap Game will soon witness. From the Music City of U.S.A., Nashville, TN, The Black Son is no newcomer to the blossoming creative scene in Nashville. In 2012 and 2013 The Black Son was handpicked to represent the Nashville SLAM team at the national spoken word competition, Brave New Voices. He also sold out 2 successful shows in his hometown within the last year and opened up for Dom Kennedy on his ‘Get Home Safely’ Tour this past February.
His lyrical dexterity is on full display on ‘The Black Son Rising’ EP. Darker instrumentals are used as the musical backdrop to provide the perfect soundscape for The Black Son to vividly depict the harsh realities that so many disenfranchised youth in American inner cities are faced with today. From the manic drum patterns of ‘Hidden Colors’, to the chilling, voice-cracking vocals on ‘Rolling Stone’, to the cautionary tales sprinkled across ‘Wiretaps’, there is an obvious emotional clarity in the music and the messages that are the highlights of this initial offering.

"10 RISING NASHVILLE HIP-HOP ARTISTS YOU SHOULD BE LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW"

BlackSon may be the youngest artist in this article, but don't let his age fool you. The Nashville native is making huge moves including a recent collaboration with Kid Sister and King Chip on the Key Wane-produced banger "All I Need." He got his start as a writer and performer for a local spoken word troupe called Southern Word and a while later, BlackSon and his friends went on to form their own group called BlackCity. While BlackCity wasn't a rap group initially, it has evolved into a strong force in Nashville's independent hip-hop community and has helped strengthen and solidify BlackSon's talents. In 2013, BlackSon's older brother Myke quit his job and built a recording studio in their house. Since then, BlackSon has worked feverishly on writing, making demos, and intense freestyle sessions he calls "rap workouts." Last August, he released a demo called The BlackSon Rising and he's is also working on a new project, which will be released later this summer. - Paper Magazine

Maturity. That’s the Tennessee native summed up in one word. Maturity beyond his years encapsulate Blackson’s take on societal issues and stresses haunting the life a young man not even old enough to legally drink yet. - The Smoking Section
