"The Brazen Youth"

It’s hard to pinpoint what genre The Brazen Youth play; some of their songs are extremely poppy, some are atmospheric, and some get uncharacteristically heavy, so if you’re the type of person who feels the need to categorize and sub-categorize every band you hear, be prepared for some cognitive dissonance. This Connecticut-based duo’s music sounds as if Sigúr Rós, The Music Tapes, and Plain White T’s were thrown into broth and left to simmer. They have accomplished a lot musically, creating interesting pieces that would put a four-piece through the ringer.

“Alright” is the name of The Brazen Youth’s main single, and unlike the other eclectic tracks made by the duo, this one is a not-so-standard pop ballad. With a chord progression akin to John Lennon’s “Imagine,” the song starts out with a mellow, almost somber feel, before turning into a poppy, swing-driven groove. It’s a relatively simple song and might not have all the bells and whistles that their other tracks have. “Alright” is still very much The Brazen Youth’s brainchild, with little accidentals and hints of their style. "The Brazen Youth, Alright"

The Brazen Youth is a duo out of old Lyme, CT. that includes Nick Lussier on vocals and guitar and Charles Dahlke on piano and vocals. They have morphed a sound together that is pure and unique with a subtle pleasantness creating profound results. Their latest single, Alright, is sublime elegance.

Song: “Alright”

This song is a coming of age anthem that reaches you on a cerebral level. Lyrically it speaks to a generation that seems to be searching for a place in the world. It is going through growing pains at the moment in order to redefine itself to higher and greater standards.

Musically, it is a perfect prosody of words and melody. It has intrigue and mystery soft around the edges, but edges none the less. Starting slow and building to a climatic finish. This duo is a fusion of sincere emotion and precise talent. This track was well thought out and executed with perfection.

The single, Alright, by The Brazen Youth is a melodic testimony to rising above and moving forward regardless the challenge. It is heartfelt and beautiful and worth a listen. This duo has serious talent and something to say. I listened to the song over and over again, never tiring only discovering a new beauty every time it is played.

"Live Lunch Break Flashback - The Brazen Youth"

There was no ID required Thursday when The Day's Live Lunch Break concert series featured The Brazen Youth at The Telegraph Record Shop in New London. Indeed, TBY members Nick Lussier and Charlie Dahlkie are high school juniors (East Lyme and Lyme-Old Lyme, respectively; go Vikings and Wildcats!). But despite their tender ages, the duo performed seven intensely melodic and thoughtful pop songs - recalling artists ranging from Neutral Milk Hotel and Coldplay to Jose Gonzales and Bright Eyes. If you didn't make it to the performance, you can see the whole episode - including an interview with host Rick Koster - at theday.com. In fact, all Lunch Break sessions are archived there - all 140-plus! - The New London Day

Bio

If you think every high school band is a garage band you’ve never witnessed anything like the Brazen Youth. Formed two years ago by then 15 year olds Charlie Dahlke and Nick Lussier, the singer/songwriter duo has taken Atmospheric Alternative/Indie Rock to a place way beyond their years. Honored at the 2015 Whalie Awards, they picked up Song of the Year and Best Indie Performance amongst their many nominations. This came on the heels of Brazen Youth’s winning performance at the Hard Rock Café in Boston during the New England RADAR Awards for the best act under 21 in New England.
Their debut Album “New Life” contained memorable cuts like “Alright” that Skope Magazine called…. "a melodic testimony to rising above and moving forward regardless the challenge. It is hearfelt and beautiful…”
Currently Dahlke and Lussier are in a high tech studio on a 100 acre working shoreline farm developing their next concept album “The Ever Dying Bristlecone Man”. It’s here they are learning how the cycle of life is faced everday. They have just released the single “Reassess Me” off the album. With Nick on lead vocals and guitar and Charlie on keyboard, vocals and saw, the planned release date for the album is sometime in 2016.
It’s hard to believe that they still have one more year of high school ahead of them, but after that they look forward to moving to Iceland, a landscape that fits the music perfectly. It’s the next good place to journey if they want to conquer the world.
