Bio
The Break Lights, originally known as Coastal Contradiction, formed in Parsippany, New Jersey in the summer of 2010. The band was founded by Jake Roggenkamp and Michael Saiewitz, two singer-songwriters whose main influences include The Beatles, Wilco, Spoon, Paul Simon, and Radiohead. Raaj Shah, an original member of the band, taught himself bass and added additional harmonies. The newest member, Evan Rodrigues, joined the band as its drummer in 2013. A quick learner, Evan was also self taught. By the end of 2013, all the band members graduated from college, which allowed for a heavier focus on writing, recording, and performing.
With two primary songwriters, The Break Lights has a varied sound that likes to shift between styles and genres. Their songs take unique perspectives on relationships, literature, and life. The band released its first recordings on a four track release called Ladies EP in April 2014.
