"The Bul Bey x Davon - "Where I'm From" [Official Video]"

Rising Philly MC The Bul Bey reps his hometown in the official video for his first single “Where I’m From”, which drops worldwide today. The video shot by Same DNA TV features Bey and Jersey MC Davon repping their respective zip codes in a colorful clip that juxtaposes sobering lyricism with vivid murals, fresh faces, bright locales and sunny dispositions. Bey punctuates the whole affair with a shirt covered in waffles. “Where I’m From” is the first fruit from Bey’s collaborative partnership with the newly minted Illvibe Media imprint fronted by the celebrated Philly based DJ crew, the Illvibe Collective. The slice of life narrative is just one example of Bey’s singular style, which has been refined over the course of three mixtape releases. Primed to drop his forthcoming Shakin’ Hands & Kissing Babies LP, the time is now for The Bul Bey. Check the footage below to watch the official video for “Where I’m From.” Purchase the single via Bandcamp. Get a taste of Bey’s other joints via thebulbey.com. Stay tuned for more. - Okayplayer

"The Bul Bey talks his new album, SHKB"

Rising Philadelphia Hip Hop recording artist “The Bul Bey“ sat down with HF®’s Clark Kennedy at Sound Butter Audio Studios (South Street) to talk his new album, ‘Shaking Hands & Kissing Babies’, which is due mid July worldwide via his website TheBulBey.com.

In the midst of the conversation, additional details were filled in about The Bul Bey’s intention to reshape Philadelphia’s Hip Hop culture by being organic and true to his craft without emulating the trend of modernized rap music. - HypeFresh

"The Bul Bey addresses social issues on new track "Thoughts while marching""

Philly rapper Amir Richardson, aka The Bul Bey, is known for bringing the party as much as bringing serious issues into focus. When I chatted with him earlier this year, he mentioned how growing up on Philly’s Salford Street had to be one of the “worst places” he’s ever lived. Although he said living conditions were poor, he also noted the sense of community there was a huge positive aspect to his upbringing.

His new track, “Thoughts While Marching,” produced by Clark Kennedy, premiered over on HYPEFRESH® Magazine, and Erin Simon writes, “TheBulBey ties his personal struggles to the forefront in ’Thoughts While Marching,’ simultaneously discussing cultural topics within the African-American community.” - WXPN The Key

"Illvibe Media Presents: The Bul Bey: Re-VIBE'd LP"

Philly MC and newly minted Illvibe Media representative The Bul Bey gives listeners a solid introduction to his sound with The Bul Bey: Re-VIBE’d LP – a 12-track compilation featuring some of his best joints from the last few years. Remastered by Miflyn Gaines and packaged with artwork from Rashid Zakat, the collection is a clinic in versatility and lyrical dexterity that finds Bey lending his flow – a combination of clever braggadocio, introspective commentary and relentless bars – to everything from solid boom-bap to pensive piano tracks. Illvibe Media drops this compilation – the latest since their release of the SUPAVISION single “PAUSE” and Bey’s colorful video for “Where I’m From” – with a note on the importance of the project and the expectations they have for their newest recruit:

West Philadelphia’s THE BUL BEY has been steadily putting out solid projects for a couple of years. Now signed to the legendary ILLVIBE COLLECTIVE’S offshoot label, ILLVIBE MEDIA, he thought it best to create a compilation of his best work to be re-introduced to the public. ENJOY!

Look out for his first official album, SHAKING HANDS & KISSING BABIES, out on Illvibe Media in February 2015.

"Reviews: Bey - The Night Shift"

Philly emcee, Bey, returns with his latest offering “The Night Shift” a 10 track opus that showcases how he has progressed not only as a lyricist, but also as a man. He exposes his inner most thoughts and feelings; pushing various conceptual envelopes and getting a few things off of his chest in the process. Longtime producer and collaborator, The Product, provides the musical theatrics for this soundtrack of the soul.

The Night Shift takes a different path than Bey’s debut EP, In the Meantime, which exhibited his lyricism and ability to move crowds. TNS gets up close and very personal on each track. Bey allows the listener to explore the cavernous and sometimes tumultuous tunnels and throughways of his heart and mind. “Cast and Cane”, one of my personal favorites, examines the harsh road that an artist must take once the decision is made to embark on a career in music. The aggression and tenacity in his voice is heard loud and clear as punch lines are delivered in combinations, stunning the cerebellum like a jab from Lenox Lewis. “Changes” is an amazing retrospective of Bey’s relationships with friends, family, and love. The track has several vantage points and inserts you, the listener, into each storyline. The validity of Bey’s growth can be heard on “Shine on Em”. You can feel his metamorphosis through this track as he grants us the opportunity to his mature transformation. The Product’s inspiring instrumentation, led by staccato drum kicks and an infectious open high hat sequence meshes perfectly with the words and concept of this record.

Bey’s cogent follow-up EP is both entertaining and inspiring. He put his life and feelings on display, something that not too many emcees are secure enough to do and has done so in an effective manner. TNS is just as powerful as it is vulnerable and is filled with relatable concepts that we all can learn from. - Amped Sounds

Bio

Energetic Philadelphia wordsmith The Bul Bey has yet to take his foot off the gas.  Emerging in 2014 as Illvibe Media’s newest signee, Bey quickly assumed duties as the official host of the wildly popular Friends and Fam party fronted by DJ Matthew Law.  Gaining momentum, Bey began working with the likes of !llmind, Like (of Pac Div), Roots Crew affiliate STS and more. After the release of the infectious single “Where I’m From,” Bey continued to push forward with the release of the official video for the track and his lyrical gut punch of a full-length debut, the 2015 Shaking Hands and Kissing Babies LP.

Never one to rest on his laurels, The Bul Bey hit the road soon after to promote the project with a series of dates in Los Angeles, Dallas, New York, Chicago, Orlando and even Dublin.  Bey’s travels have found him headlining small venues and sharing larger stages with a diverse selection of celebrated rap veterans, including Oddisee, Rapper Big Pooh, Black Milk, Rapsody, Mickey Factz and Joell Ortiz.

Back in the studio working on the follow-up to SHKB, The Bul Bey is preparing to debut new music and embark upon new adventures during the summer of 2016.  Focused on both the feeling of the music and his Philadelphia roots, Bey is readying a release packed to the gills with plenty of candor, poetry and copious amounts of soul.

Bringing youthful curiosity and a bottomless pit of energy to every endeavor, The Bul Bey moves closer to his career goals of crushing every stage and owning each sweat-drenched second of euphoria that is the magic hour.

“It's 1am, the party is packed and sweaty, everything is ripe, and the Dj plays that feel good song that gives everyone a shot of energy that keeps them going for the next 5 hours. That's the music I make.”
