"Ethereal Japanese group’s latest video sees their cinematic scope take hold - it’s premiering on DIY as today’s Neu Pick."

Every weekday, DIY’s new music know-it-all Neu brings you one essential new release to get obsessed with. Today’s Neu Pick comes from The fin.

The Japanese port city which The fin. call home seeps into everything they put their dodgily-capitalised name to. The push-and-pull of a tidal town can be felt in every weighty sway of their ethereal noise, and in their new video for ‘Through The Deep’, that heaviness finds an emotional anchor.

Following the exploits of a young traveller who happens upon an abandoned fairground, it swiftly takes a darker turn, echoing the light and shade tendencies of the band themselves. Soundtracked by their The xx-meets-Jon Hopkins ambience, it sees The fin.’s cinematic tendencies take the fore.
The ‘Through The Deep’ EP is released 19th May via Lost In The Manor. Sink into the clip below, and catch The fin. on one of the following UK dates.

"Premiere: the fin. - 'Anchorless Ship'"

the fin. are part of Japan's dream pop scene, with the band's debut album gaining a cult following.
Since then, the band have been able to spread their wings, playing a series of European shows.
New EP 'Through The Deep', then, comes with no small degree of anticipation. Out on May 13th, it's a five track journey through the gossamer atmospherics of neo-psychedelia.
Clash is able to premiere new cut 'Anchorless Ship', and it's a sweetly poetic piece of guitar pop.
Drifting, at times almost somnambulist, it nevertheless engages with every passing note. Tune in now. - Clash Magazine

"FESTIVAL ROUND UP: THE GREAT ESCAPE 2016"

Hailing from Japan, Saturday kicked off with a set from The Fin. Commanding considerable acclaim in their own nation, their sound recalled artists such as Tame Impala, Metronomy and Unknown Mortal Orchestra to name a few and demonstrated a capacity for infusing pyschedelia with a poppier backbone. The band are set to support The Last Shadow Puppets in London this coming July, a stint that’s sure to see them garner an even greater UK following. - Tenement TV

The fin. are a Kobe, Japan-based synth-pop/chillwave quartet that are today premiering their most recent track "Divers" with Earmilk.
"Divers", hailing off forthcoming EP Through The Deep (out June 3/16 via Lost in the Manor Records), sports a vibrant indie art-pop approach that is masterfully rounded out with both melodic and electronic additives. Featuring symphonic arpeggios, minimalist instrumentation, and spaced-out vocals, the track truly captures a quiet euphoria.

Bio

Hailing from the vibrant Japanese port city of Kobe on Osaka Bay, The fin. have become something of a reputed and singular attraction in their homeland due to their stylish Europhile blend of synth-pop, chillwave and dream-pop, complete with English lyrics addressing universal themes of everyday uncertainties. Often referenced alongside the likes of Beach House, Toro Y Moi, Mew and Washed Out, the quartet have, since forming in 2012, created a sufficient stir to have performed before thousands at major Japanese festivals including Fuji Rock Festival, Rising Sun Rock Festival and Viva La Rock.

Not content with such acclaim in one country alone, Yuto Uchino (vocals and synths), Ryosuke Odagaki (guitar), Takayasu Taguchi (bass) and Kaoru Nakazawa (drums), each aged 24, set their sights worldwide and in March this year embarked on a major nine-date tour of the US. Now the Fin have their sights set on the UK.

The band’s new EP is set for release at the end of June 2016. There’s an oceanic theme running through the beauteous record that permeates more than just the song titles. Maritime imagery features heavily in Yuto Uchino’s lyrics, as references to ship, shore and submersion loom large. Shimmering, sophisticated indie art-pop that will be familiar to fin abounds. The band spent May in the UK promoting the record. They travelled the length and breath of the country playing everywhere from Portsmouth to Newcastle. This all culminated in the UK festival debut at The Great Escape where The Line of Best Fit and Tenement UK made them their pick of the festival. The band will return to Europe in September to mix their new album and play some more shows.
