Bio

Anti-love, immodest, and not carefree, The Glass Eyes play their songs with an intensity rare in the singer-songwriter and college rock genres. As a live act, the Chicago three piece combines the nostalgic melodies of Neil Young with the precision and speed of early era REM. The group's substantial recorded output melds together the band's straight-ahead songs with more cinematic and free-form explorations of sound. Splitting time between playing established Chicago venues (Empty Bottle, Subterranean), and the house show underground, The Glass Eyes are immediate, danceable, and they're just getting started.

The Glass Eyes began as a bedroom recording project of songwriter Chris Jones with the release of Spell It Normal on Bandcamp in October 2014. The addition of drummer Mike Omahen led to the duo gigging regularly around Chicago as well as a follow up release, Real Spread, in August 2015 on the Chicago experimental tape label Grandpa Bay Records (Opposites, Evasive Backflip, This is Lorelei, Water From Your Eyes). The two records led to an in-studio interview of the band on WXRT's Local Anesthetic program and increased visibility for the group in the Chicago DIY scene.

2016 saw the band add bass player Joe Drzemiecki (of Fatkid, Amateur, (A)fendoulis) to the lineup and embark on it's first midwest tour. A third LP, Prime Record was released in November. Home-recorded by the band and mastered by Grandpa Bay's Nate Amos, the new album features anthemic rock songs (The Sea, Another Word) alongside quieter introspections (Call It What It Is, Wounded Like I Was) and studio experimentations (Bike Tour, Peach Tree).
