"Bay Area rockers The Go Ahead get acrobatic in new video for “On My Side”: Watch"

For seven years now, Bay Area outfit The Go Ahead has been carving out their own brand of alternative rock. Featuring the vocal talents of Kyna Wise — yes, that’s the daughter of the great and wonderful Ray Wise — the group works with the glossy distortion you’d hear at The Bronze nightclub in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, while tossing out angsty harmonies that would pleasantly float around the dock of Dawson’s Creek.

Today, they’ve dropped the music video for “On My Side”, one of six new tracks off their forthcoming In Harms Way EP, due out December 15th. Directed by Frank Door (of We Will Shoot You), the video features the talents of Artoor Voskanian, a friend of Wise’s who came to America from Iran, and has since found a new life as a performing artist specializing in the hoop. Needless to say, he goes all out in this video. Watch above.

In celebration of the new EP, The Go Ahead will host a record release party at San Francisco’s Elbo Room, where they’ll be performing alongside the great Will Weston. For those itching for a history lesson, Weston’s grandmother, Jo Stafford, was an American pop singer whose 1952 hit “You Belong to Me” topped the international charts, while his grandfather, Paul, was a multi-instrumentalist that came to be dubbed “the father of mood music.”

Well, the more you learn. - Consequence Of Sound

"ROCK, SOUL AND FUNKY STUFF"

"[The Go Ahead] have embraced the fact that they love different sounds and rebel against being placed in a box. Each of the band members brings a different talent and collectively they combined all their uniqueness to create a sound that will propel beyond the norm into their own stratosphere."

"VIDEO PREMIERE: The Go Ahead – Checked Out"

The Go Ahead is one of those bands that prove that there is no need to use “female-fronted” as a qualifier because they deliver a sound that rivals some established male-dominated alternative rock bands. - SA Music Scene

"Cycles by The Go Ahead"

[The Go Ahead] don't really disappoint throughout the EP, especially on 'Checked Out' where the instrumentation makes the album's greatest triumph. - Music Blog for Wolves

"Daily Feature: The Go Ahead"

Big things are afoot for this talented foursome that are known for combining various genres into a driving rock force, with a sultry and soulful front-woman that demands your attention. - Showspark

"The Go Ahead Move Through Some Emotional Cycles"

For years me and my roommate have been trying to spread the gospel about the horrors that come with the northern part of California. For every negative we have to say, The Go Ahead has a million and one positives. To us it’s horrendous, to them it’s “magical” and home. - Golden Mixtape

"Spill Video Premiere: The Go Ahead - "About The Burst""

Although San Francisco’s The Go Ahead are getting ready to release their re-mastered album Cycles on January 8, 2016, they already have another brand new song and video. “About To Burst” is our current Spill Video Premiere .. available just to you, Spill Readers! This band is certainly starting 2016 off with a BANG!! - Spill Magazine

"Bands Interviewing Bands with The Go Ahead and Charlie Wolf & The Small Calamities"

So what happens when you put two musicians together and ask them to interview one another? As it turns out, you get a pretty unique insight into the inner workings of everything that goes into their craft—their personal battles, their triumphs, and the daily struggles that you and I take for granted—like where to live, or how to stay current. - Cliche Mag

"Rock: The Go Ahead"

Alex Mamelok, Chris Kelly and Josh Hurtz blaze through blues, post-hardcore and melodic rock as if it were second-nature to combine such brazenly different genres. Then singer Kyna Wise steps up to the mic and finds her full vocal range, from a sultry Fiona Apple sound to a Stevie Nicks pitch. This is the group for fans of Incubus, The Kills, Red Hot Chili Peppers --or basically anyone who can list "music" as a pleasure. - Weird Journalism

"Jesús and the Rabbis – Unity at Last"

Jesús and the Rabbis have been proclaimed “San Francisco’s Favorite Nipple Funk Rock Band”. The Lovely Wise, the moniker of the lead singer, has a soulful voice. I don’t believe I’ve heard a band who wasn’t punk or hip hop, but a talented classy act, with a song called F*ck You, and make it sound sexy. When she really gets into it, there’s a little James Brown in her soul. - SF Gate

"Review: Jesús and the Rabbis"

They force hooks into your brain before you even know what happened. San Francisco knocked it out of the park this time. The topping of this funk rock stew is a formidable force of female vocal fireworks equal parts Grace Slick, Mick Jagger and Gwen Stefani. - Ryan Brown

"Review: Jesús and the Rabbis"

I was taken by the fresh energy on stage. Kyna leads the journey of familiar (and original?) tunes with a wildness of passion and a voice and spirit as whimsical and sincere as Janis Joplin and sexy and powerful as Beyonce. The band is right there with her... playing their hearts out and throwing in some fancy licks, creating a sound that leaves you wanting more! - Anon Events

"Personal Text from Thomas Pridgen"

"You guys are hot. Good, good stuff.” - The Mars Volta
