Books on tape were not the only audio being played at the Oshawa Public Library recently.
Ten bands from across Durham Region came together to duke it out in the Library’s Battle of the Bands. When the dust settled, three were crowned as best in their respective classes.
In the Kindergarten to Grade 8 category, JMZ’s were victorious. The band received a $300 gift certificate to Long and McQuade for its performance.
The Goombas were named tops in the Grade 9 to 12 category, with Rest Aside emerging triumphant in the adult category. Both bands received 10 hours studio time at Wellcraft Music Group, while The Goombas also won stage time at Oshawa’s Canada Day Celebration at Lakeview Park. The performance was donated by the City in celebration of National Youth Week. Rest Aside won an additional six hours of free rehearsal time at The Rehearsal Factory.
“People are always so surprised to hear that a library is hosting a musical event,” says Tiffany Pahman, teen services librarian.
