THE GREATER RICHMOND CHORUS

The Greater Richmond Chorus is a member organization of Sweet Adelines International. We are an all-female a capella barbershop harmony chorus covering popular music from across the decades, including pop, jazz, gospel and showtunes. Barbershop music is a uniquely American art form born in the 1800's with roots in the African-American culture, traveling minstrel shows and Vaudeville. The magic of barbershop  vocals and the thrill of ringing chords has broad international appeal. Sweet Adelines has chapters world over, from Richmond to Christchurch New Zealand and so many cities in between. Our Greater Richmond Chorus members come from all counties in the greater Richmond area as well as Charlottesville, Newport News, Virginia Beach, Williamsburg and the Northern Neck.
The Greater Richmond Chorus competes annually and has been the regional champion 6 times and has appeared in the international competition 6 times as well. We perform for civic and charitable organizations as well as private groups, churches, community events and fundraisers. We also have several quartets available for performances. 
Greater Richmond Chorus' vision is to develop the musical talents of our members as we provide high quality entertainment for and service to the Greater Richmond community, and to cultivate, support and mentor female vocalists of all ages. We strive to engage the greater Richmond community in supporting this group of diverse and talented women with in-kind and financial contributions to further our efforts in acquainting an ever larger audience with the rich art form of barbershop harmony.
