Bio
The Gypsy Scholars hit the Canberra music scene in 2014 and continue into the new year with energy and excitement. Their exuberance and blended musical tones tell stories of travel and life in a way that only four guys, varying quantities of facial hair and an array of instruments can do. Ticking all the boxes of required band stereotypes from mysterious drummer to the long haired heart throb, The Gypsy Scholars offer the full package: beats, banter and bass.
After their appearance on Balcony TV Sydney, The Gypsy Scholars have been gaining momentum and 2015 has been a busy year of gigs and writing. Successful headline shows at legendary Canberra venues Transit Bar and The Phoenix, TGS have cemented their folky sound on the nation's capital and the release of their first single "Looking Glass" is a true embodiment of the band's fun loving essence. The joyful blend of lead singers James Kelly and Conagh Mcmahon-Hogan on "Looking Glass" is a true portrayal of the group's chemistry and is something that is only amplified when seeing the band live.
The Gypsy Scholars are comprised of: James Kelly on vocals, guitar, and trumpet; Conagh McMahon-Hogan on vocals, piano, mandolin and banjo; Joel Shapero on bass and ukulele; and Alec Brinsmead on drums.
