"2015 Homegrown Throwdown Winners"

It’s been a wild five weeks for the 2015 Homegrown Throwdown, some of the best talent yet came through this year ready for battle. To say we were impressed with the crowds, the talent and the support would be an understatement, as it truly was one of the best years we’ve had yet.

First of all, we’d like to extend a huge congratulations to The Jonestown Crows, with a well-deserving win having secured more than 100 tickets sold, great judges scores and immense crowd votes. To reiterate, here’s what they’ve won:

• $1000 in cold hard cash
• $3500 in prizes from Sponsors
• A song to be played on Q106
• A Music Media Package, compliments of Media Advantage. The package includes:

a.) An (up to) five page website. See previous example here: deverauxband.com

b.) Full length Music Video See example here: See Video

• Professional photography session, compliments of Scott V Photography. See examples here: Band Photos.
• Band merchandise package with 50 buttons compliments of Rounded Pixels and 24 t-shirts compliments of Showoff Screen Printing.
• One day (one song) studio time, compliments of Music Manor
• Opportunity to open for a national band at The Loft

We’ll be pretty busy in the next few months pairing with the prize package sponsors to make this all happen!

And in case you missed it, taking home the 2nd place spot was the ever-so-talented Damn Van Cannibals, preceded by 3rd place, energetic five-piece, Chief Larson & the Fire Puppets.

Other bands of note in the finals were: Rachel & Alex, Big Ass Bus Driver and Devin & the Dead Frets.

The competition was tough, the nights were long, but coupled with the immense talent and crowd support, it’s been a Homegrown Throwdown to remember. - The Loft

"Turn it Down"

The Jonestown Crows video release party

Saturday, Nov. 14 @ The Loft, 414 E. Michigan Ave., Lansing. 18+, $12, $8 adv., 7 p.m.

Progressive doom-grass band the Jonestown Crows perform Saturday at the Loft. The gig is a video release party for its song, “Whiskey River Ride.” Openers are All Ends Black and Tell Yo Mama. The Jonestown Crows’ vocalist/banjo player Jebadiah Halfhand said the band’s dark Americana sound is powered by a diverse record collection. “My personal influences are Type O Negative, Opeth, Faith No More and the Goddamn Gallows,” he said. “But everyone in the band adds their own influences — Tool, Hank 3, Clutch, Those Poor Bastards, Johnny Cash and Hank Williams.” As for the band’s live show? “It’s high-energy, foot-stomping, sacrilegious mayhem,” Halfhand said. “We make it a point to show any crowd our views on the absolute evil and futility of organized religion and to press the fact we’re all going to die — very, very soon.” - Lansing City Pulse

Bio

Originated in Lansing, Michigan, we formed The Jonestown Crows to promote our ideas of how religion stands as a pillar of hypocrisy, fornicated in the evils of blind faith.

With this band, we aim to shed light on the perils of false beliefs as we draw on images of The Jonestown Massacre to take the crowd into a mental journey of religious blasphemy and dark humor. Elements of blues, metal, country, punk, and Eastern European folk are intertwined in our musical styles and pumped through the deepest veins of our lyrics. In part, we’ve evolved into a band of unrivaled gothic blues-infused talent and creativity.
