Experimental percussion band, The Kraken Quartet, brings a collective sound that feels larger than life, a sonic boom of energy that shocks the system while remaining intimate with their music. Based out of Austin, the Kraken Quartet formed in 2011 and is made up of members, Chris Demetriou, Andrew Dobos, Taylor Eddinger, and Sean Harvey.
The Kraken Quartet were able to stop by Studio 1A and played some of their music for us. The band will be playing at the, Amid The Noise Festival, hosted by, Fast Forward Austin at 4th Tap Brewing Co-op, admission is free so get there early! Dedicated to blending the worlds of contemporary, classical, and popular music, The Kraken Quartet is a genre-crossing percussion group known for its highly energetic and engaging performances. Since their formation in 2011, the group has been heralded by publications including Time Out New York, I Care If You Listen, WNYC, KUTX and The Ithaca Times for merging elements of indie rock, minimalism, electronica, jazz, and the avant-garde. Kraken collaborates with artists across many genres, from playing shows with math-rock groups like TTNG and Giraffes? Giraffes!, to collaborating with So Percussion member Jason Treuting and composer Elliot Cole.
The Kraken Quartet is Chris Demetriou, Andrew Dobos, Taylor Eddinger, and Sean Harvey. The group is proud to use Vic Firth sticks and mallets, and Grover Pro Percussion and Hammerax instruments.
