Bio

THE LOVE BOMBS are a rock band from Melbourne, Australia. Featuring Pierina O’Brien, Jamie McLean, Hamish McLean, Derek Anderson.

The Love Bombs are collaboration of two bands, two piece The Council and all girl band Bunny Monroe. Between them they have played multiple shows, festivals and tours (national/international). Including, numerous CherryRock and CherryFest’s.

The Love Bombs draw from an eclectic mix of influences, combining multiple genres such as rock, punk, indy and at times blues into a fiery sound that has rocked Melbourne’s many music venues.

Coming together in early 2013, and utilising their individual experience, The Love Bombs started working on songs like Pussyvere. Pussyvere has a stripped back guitar sound, solid rhythm and ‘Nick Cave’ like vocals. The lyrics were written as a homage to Miss Guy, the lead singer 90’s New York rock band the Toilet Boys. Although some of their other songs incorporate a bigger sound, such as the loud punk tones of Pretty Obscene, Sleaze and the Slime and Hell or High Water. Or straight up rock on songs like Move On. You’ll always hear elements of The Love Bombs formative style that is prevalent in Pussyvere.

The Love Bombs launched with their first gig at the infamous Tote, Cobra Bar on the 27th July 2013.
Since then, The Love Bombs have continued to carve a place for themselves. Within three months of their first live performance, they had secured a residency at the world known Cherry Bar in ACDC Lane. After which, house soundie Dave ‘Red’ Whip described them, in an email to James Young (owner), as “a real goer”. His email was published by James Young on the Cherry Bar Facebook page as one of Melbourne’s bands to watch.
Since July 2013, The Love Bombs have played alongside renowned artists and bands such as; Paul Kelly, Adalita (Magic Dirt), Mick Harvey (Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds), Charlie Owen (Beasts if Bourbon), Spencer P Jones, Devilskin, Digger and the Pussycats, The Redcoats, Legends of Motorsport, Dead City Ruins, The Mercy Kills and legendary ex-Chain member Phil Manning.

They have appeared multiple times on Beat TV, gained the attention of press and music publications mX, Beat Magazine and The Music. They were also the final pub strip band featured in street press title Inpress.
The Love Bombs launched their debut EP at Cherry Bar (Melbourne) on the 6th June 2014 to a sold out crowd. Both Pussyvere and Pretty Obscene, off the debut EP, held a two week spot in the Triple J Unearthed weekly charts.
