2016 has just begun, and I’ve already found my new favorite web series: Blind Covers. Every episode features a band covering a song they’ve never heard based solely on the lyrics. The band has just one hour to write and record their own version. Host Mitch Thompson interviews the band prior, providing the audience with a brief glimpse into the featured act. This series guarantees unique covers that will satisfy fans across music genres.
The first episode featured Erin and Melissa covering Manchester Orchestra, while the second episode featured local band Town In The City (recently renamed The Mosaics) performing a folk-infused cover of Martina McBride’s “Independence Day” complete with organ and psychedelic-rock guitars. Last year, bands from all musical genres came together to celebrate fall at the homegrown FallFest, and this year, one of our favorite local bands Town in the City (recently renamed The Mosaics) is back to host the local celebration featuring some of the region’s best up-and-coming acts.
The second annual FallFest will be held in Studio City again this Saturday, November 14th. This year, the festival will feature bands not only from Los Angeles but all along the West Coast. As they put it, this fall festival is “a celebration of the local and regional West Coast music scene, along with homegrown vibes in a relaxed intimate setting.”
The lineup includes host group The Mosaics but also features acts from across the region, like San Francisco’s The Electric Magpie and Oregon-based Jackson Boone and The Ocean Ghosts with dreamy, psychedelic-pop band Sumeau closing out the evening.
The festival will feature a variety of amazing local and regional California acts, an assortment of great food and drinks for sale, arts & crafts, and other fun activities! THE MOSAICS are a genre bending group of kaleidoscopic proportions.
Combining "flower child" harmonies that harken back to a simpler time, with a dazzling array of melodic soundscapes and a powerful live show, the band channels a genuine spirit of humanity.
After completing a tour of the West Coast, the LA based group is in the midst of creating its first full length LP with Producer Mitchell Haeuszer.
In 2015 THE MOSAICS debuted their hard hitting track "Elephant Song," which illustrates the bands' ability to transport the listener to multiple dimensions.
