"Victorious Scandal"

The Scandal played at Victorious Festival this year and put on an excellent show to an enormous crowd, They also entered a busking competition shortly after and won it outright. I have booked them to appear at Portsmouth Guildhall in December for the Portsmouth Beer Festival where they will be playing the main stage to 1,200 people. I can't recommend this band enough, totally brilliant - Nick Courtney PROMOTER - Nick Courtney

"The Scandal"

‘You Shine’ aka Moonshine by The Scandal is an urban shanty that finds itself halfway between dusty seaside taverns and the spooky southern porches of backstreets America. Conceived somewhere between the metropolis and the port, it sees the Portsmouth three-piece, led by blues virtuoso, Brendan Mcveagh, howl and stamp until the sleeping ghosts are woken.

With a trumpet in tow, the stripped-back rustic twang of these city pirates is made all the more haunting. It adds a depth to their tales, the likes of which shrouds the atmosphere with an eerie narrative.

The Libertines’ affiliations with typically British tales of woe and gin-soaked dives; the steel-playing bluesmen and their raw burden, woven with anguish and loss; then perhaps The Felice Brothers and The Buffalo Skinners: busking bands who made it from the streets to the stage while never whipping the grit from their boots. - Dan Jones

Bio

Brendan and Aiden met at a festival in the south of England called Victorious were Brendan and Teddy (Tom) had been performing. We drank whiskey and talked about the blues. Both inspired by artists such as,Screaming Jay Hawkins,Howling Wolf,The Doors,Jimi Hendrix, Rodriguez and Shakey Graves. Portsmouth is a small town and not many people play the blues, so we set up a jam. I called my pal Teddy (Tom) he brought his trumpet after hours jamming, writing and whiskey drinking The Scandal formed. We started booking some gigs and in under a year we have been playing festivals and gigs up and down the country also Europe including Paris and Amsterdam. Just recently we won a busking competition that won us cash and a trophy with our name engraved which was to be displayed in the Portsmouth Guildhall. We are also the campaigners for free busking licences in Portsmouth which has attracted loads of media attention for us. We were also approached by a well known promoter for the popular on-line game 'Mine Craft' to provide a backing track for her 100,000 subscribers video for YouTube, this video has been watched by hundreds of thousands of people internationally....

Travelling over the years observing reckless romantics fuelled by lust, and bottled confidence; casting shadows across the dim glow, cascading between broken buildings. It was an observation of this nature, amongst so many others, that led to The Scandal's creation as the three piece that presents itself today. We tell stories that are born amidst the haze of endless weekends, and glassed emotions; we are timeless, yet very much alive.

There is an unspoken scene emerging from the shadows of the South coast, and The Scandal are very much at it's heart.
