Bringing to the stage potent and dynamic musicianship and naturally danceable energy in a funky mix of rock-related genres, Charlottesville's Smiling Islanders formed in August 2014 as the collective brainchild of four students sharing a passion for live performance. Led by frontman David Gray, the group began modestly, but quickly gained momentum in the local music scene. Following an exhilarating first two months, the band retreated to the studio in October 2014 to record their first EP, titled Candelabra. Released in April 2015, the record offers 6 heavily funk- and classic-rock-influenced tracks. The band continue to perform extensively in the Charlottesville area and beyond, and look forward to expanding their reach as 2016 progresses.
