"The Spins - Car Crash - Audio"

The US indie-gaze band The Spins are working towards the release of their début EP Tank’d.

Within the past five hours Car Crash – from the forthcoming EP was revealed.

There is a summer evening vibe that drifts through the room as vibrating electric guitar echoes through the ears underpinned by acoustic six stringer, providing a wistful instrumental narrative with percussion unhurriedly framing the notes, through which an expansive vocal paints dreamy imagery.

The inspired composition is provided an impressive and unexpected book-ending with the track opening to the sound of a car engine starting and closing with the reason for the song title. - Emerging Indie Bands

"The Spins"

Last November I met Nick Coombs, member of The Spins, while I was visiting my best friend at Montclair University. He stood in the dorm hallway strumming his acoustic guitar to a Keaton Henson song. After hearing the first notes of that song I had ask about his band, which my best friend told me about. I asked a couple questions and then locked myself in my best friend's bathroom and began to listen to one of their songs called "Car Crash". I became instantly hooked.
In May I was scrolling through my Instagram feed and I stumbled across The Spins newest single "Where I've Been"; I downloaded it on my Spotify and listen to it on repeat about 10 times.

A year ago Nick Coombs (vocalist/ rhythm guitarist) was planning to start a band with Freddy Smith (the drummer), Jimmy Barr (the lead guitarist), Luke Talmadge (the bassist) and he needed to come up with a band name. Nick was with a good friend of his and spent the night drinking and smoking. When he had a little too much to drink he got "the spins" and ended up throwing up outside of his friends car. In that moment he came up with calling the band The Spins.
The Spins have a considerable number of influences. Jimmy's and Freddy's influences include rock legends such as, Rush, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Jimi Hendrix, Queen, The Who and The Black Sabbath. Luke's and Nick's influences include indie rock and grunge artists such as, Nirvana, Mac Demarco, Modest Mouse, Brand New, The Front Bottoms, and Pat the Bunny. There is also some modern pop/rock influences that the band overall feels inspired by such as, John Mayer, Ed Sheeran, Cage the Elephant, The Black Keys, The Districts, The Foo Fighters, and Say Anything.
The band's dreams are to perform with artists such as Brand New and The Districts. The Spins even said, "It would be a huge honor and a crazy experience to be able to perform with Led Zeppelin, The Foo Fighters, or Ed Sheeran. It would be insane to play with any of these artists and to play for such a big crowd."
Sadly, the biggest challenge for The Spins is money. "It's hard for four guys in college to cover all the expenses it takes to record an EP, drive to all the shows, and buy new gear. Luckily, we've been able to make it work thanks to or extremely flexible and affordable audio engineers. We recorded this EP at Super Duper Sounds with Cooper Davis and Brain Bernotas."
A huge change The Spins would like to see in the music industry is the control of record label on artists. "We think that the internet being such a prevalent medium for music today, there is no reason why artists should have to answer to anyone but themselves or meet any specific requirements in order to make music. It is completely possible for an artist in this day and age to work their way up and become completely successful on their own, through the utilization of social media and internet based advertisment." Artists like Chance the Rapper are winning Grammy's and becoming one of the biggest artists of our generation without being signed to a record label. The Spins would love to see more independent artists. "It's necessary for artists to express themselves without a filter."
The Spins best experience was their Halloween show. They threw a huge show with The Cart Boys and Pe$o the Misfit. The best part of the show was that over 300 people showed up and when the band played their set people sang along to their songs, which felt surreal. According to the band it felt like dream.
The Spins want to publicly thank their friend Tim for everything he has done for the band. "without him, none of this would have been possible and we wouldn't have as much success as we have right now." Tim recorded their four original demo's on Soundcloud. The Spins said that, " He's one of our best friends and we consider him to be 'The Fifth Spin'. We are extremely grateful for his paitence and all that he does for us, thanks Tim!"

Bio

The Spins are an Indie Alternative rock band from Northern NJ. Founded in August of 2016 by Nick Coombs (vocals/rhythm guitar), Freddy Smith (drums), and Luke Talmadge (bass), the band quickly found their full sound and line up with the addition of Jimmy Barr (lead guitar) shortly after. They began building a large local fan base right away with the release of several demos on Soundcloud, followed by the release of their debut EP, “Tank’d”. This was supported by their first tour, covering a large portion of the Northern East coast. Their latest release, “4 Day Stay”, was put out after a long period of live performances focused on building their following in their surrounding region since the release of “Tank’d”.

The band has played heavily around the East Coast in NYC, Philadelphia, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Boston, Delaware, and more. After original founding member Luke Talmadge moved to Virginia in November of 2018, the band was joined by Phil Dunphy as their new bass player. Their 2nd EP, "4 Day Stay", was released in March of 2019 to immediate success, further building their reputation and following.  Phil immediately joined them on the road in the Summer of 2019 on their 2nd and more expansive East Coast tour in support of "4 Day Stay."
