Starlight Pines - Old Yale Road EP
A year of “doing things” has turned into a life of doing things. We had an idea, started it, and made it happen – forgoing the usual barriers of procrastination and good intentions. Old Yale Road is the culmination of those efforts.
The Starlight Pines is a fuzzy-folk, art rock duo from Vancouver, BC, featuring singer and guitarist Jordan Mitchell and drummer Gerilee McBride.
Before the band became The Starlight Pines, Jordan had more than an album’s worth of songs he wanted to get out into the world and various bands with which he attempted the work. Gerilee started playing drums five years ago as a new challenge, not imagining that Jordan would tell her to “hurry up and get better at playing” so that they could start creating songs together. Working on actual songs (instead of only drum practice drills) made all the difference in Gerilee’s drumming. The band was born.
Jordan has been playing guitar for over twenty years. He has honed his craft as a guitar player in various Vancouver-based bands (The Slough, Noise Ranger, Ruby’s Collection), and as singer-songwriter Red Fir. Jordan is the primary composer and singer for The Starlight Pines.
Gerilee McBride began playing drums five years ago (the past two with Jordan) and has progressed steadily as a solid and creative drummer. She makes simple and effective beats. Her influences are The Black Keys, The Rolling Stones, and A.A Bondy.
Jordan and Gerilee have been making music together for over two years, have been together as a couple for eighteen years, and married for the past five. The Starlight Pines is a creative collaboration of their past lives and future adventures.
