Bio

With a swaying, feral sound that swoons from ambient discord to stoner panic, Edinburgh band The Tide Inside’s debut self-titled album is coming soon.

The Tide Inside are the creation of front man Mark Donnelly, who has spent the past two years preparing for a return to the live scene, whilst writing and recording his debut self-titled album The Tide Inside. With influences that range from the delay soaked abstraction of John Martyn and the idiosyncratic confessionals of The The to the sound clashes of Cabaret Voltaire and the meat on the bone of Queens of the Stone Age, Donnelly has shaped a unique and compelling record.

Recently featured as New Band of The Day on The National Student (dot com), who described their sound as:

“atmospheric post-punk that sends shivers down your spine in the subtlest manner”

They also picked up on some of The Tide Inside’s influences running through the single:

“there's Sigur Ros' hypnotic coldness, a little of White Lies own take on that post Joy Division sound and even a few echoes of Thom Yorke there too.”

The album was produced in close collaboration with Stephen Watkins of Tape Studio, an intense production process that has brought Mark’s distinct voice to the fore. Drummer Adam Bond Thomson and bass player William Acton then came on board to interpret the songs, creating a stripped down live sound that removes the studio overdubs of the album, reinventing the songs and reducing them to the bare bones.

“The live experience is very different from the album, we’ve had to reinterpret the music as there are only 3 of us. With the record there’s a lot going on, but live we’ve really simplified things, resulting in a bigger, more spacious sound.”

On My Way Back Down From the Edge is available for free download, alongside B side Kiki Drive and a remix by Edinburgh based experimental electronic project Young Hunting. Watch the accompanying music video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Jn-8RdyUAw&fb_source=message
