The Vare

With the influx of indie in today’s Canadian music scene, it’s easy for a band to get lost in the mix. The Vare is able to transcend with a refreshing, addictive sound. Coming from Montreal, their debut EP Letterbox, released May 4th, demonstrates the pure musical talent of the band members, combined with a high production quality rarely heard on debut albums. Each member is multi-instrumental and contributes to several of the band’s guitar, piano, drums, and vocal tracks during their recordings and live shows. This allows the talents of each band member to be at the forefront in different songs, resulting in a layer of depth to their sound that is hard to match.

The highlight of the EP is “Body Heat”. Its echoing vocals and intricate guitar riff create a complex but smooth, balanced rhythm. Seamlessly bouncing back and forth between passionate vocals and guitar, the intensity builds before bursting into a pounding climax.

The title track, “Letterbox”, closes out the EP with a much gloomier sound than the rest of the album. It demonstrates a contrasting darkness that really helps them stand out.

This aspect of their sound allows The Vare to emerge as a talented and unique band that can rise above the conventions of their genre. If Letterbox is any indication of what to expect from them in the near future, their soulful sound will eventually set the bar for Canadian indie music for a long time to come.

Pour une première année, Mise-o-jeu s’est associée à l’Omnium du Rock en tant que commanditaire principal. Cette nouvelle association offre une vitrine de choix au groupe vainqueur, soit la chance de se produire sur la scène Loto-Québec lors du Festival d’été de Québec.

Le 12 avril dernier, The Vare a été couronné grand gagnant de la finale de l’Omnium du Rock Mise-o-jeu. Ainsi, le groupe présentera un spectacle au Festival d’été de Québec, au parc de la Francophonie, le vendredi 11 juillet prochain dès 18 h 15. Sous forme de tournoi, l’Omnium du Rock Mise-o-jeu est l’une des plus importantes compétitions dans l’industrie de la musique rock et permet de promouvoir la relève québécoise.

The Vare est une formation montréalaise aux sonorités indie-pop, souvent comparée à des groupes de musique tels Coldplay, Kings of Leon et City and Colour. Les arrangements sophistiqués que l’on trouve sur le premier album EP du groupe, Letterbox, mettent en valeur la formation en jazz des quatre musiciens multi-instrumentistes.

Grâce à son programme de commandite, Loto-Québec appuie annuellement plus d’une centaine d’événements rassembleurs qui profitent à la collectivité dans les différentes régions du Québec. Il s’agit d’événements offerts gratuitement ou à peu de frais, qui sont sélectionnés notamment pour leur potentiel de retombées sociales et économiques dans la communauté - Omnium du Rock
