The best kept secret in music

"Music Week Presents: The Well"

Norweigan sextet The Well first met a decade ago on the west coast of Norway outside the buzzing city of Bergen. Drawing inspiration from the greats such as The Beatles and The Rolling Stones whilst incorporating contemporary influences from the likes of Arcade Fire and Haim, the band create authentic pop with an emotional appeal.

They started off hardly knowing how to play their instruments to 6-years later being scouted by Geir Luedy, a music manager in one of Scandinavia’s leading music management agencies. After some guidance and growth, the band are finally ready to release their debut single 'Separate Ways' which is said to be a bold confessional story of heartbreak. Big, emotive and heart warming. It’s everything The Well are about. - MusicWeek

"NEW ARTIST: The Well Premiere Anthemic Debut Single ‘Separate Ways’"

If you’re looking for a new band to obsess over then look no further than The Well; the group have just premiered their awesome debut single!

So who exactly are The Well? They’re from Norway and are a six piece band with a difference; they’re all related. Yes, believe it or not, they’re all actually brothers or cousins. Talent obviously runs in the family.

Freddy is the lead singer of the group, Chris and Stan are responsible for rocking out on the guitars, Olly works his magic on the keys, TJ bashes it out on the drums and Andrew uses his skills on the bass. Impressive right?

We just so happened to come across The Well online and we’re so glad we did; their debut single ‘Separate Ways’ is fast becoming one of our favourite songs. It gives us Coldplay vibes which is a great thing of course. The band themselves have named Arcade Fire, Haim and The Beatles as some of their musical influences.

After starting off slow and emotional, The Well’s first single soon builds up to an anthemic chorus that we could imagine being played at stadiums across the world. It’s a bold and heartwarming tale of loss and heartbreak.

‘Seperate Ways’ will be released on the 20th October so make sure you mark that date in your calendars. We can’t wait to hear more music from The Well; they’re definitely ones to watch out for in the near future. -

"Separate Ways"

The Well is a Norwegian six-piece band comprising of brothers and cousins from Bergen. Growing up together and going to the same school, Freddy, Olllie, Stan, Oliver, Andrew and TJ soaked up tons of musical influences as teens including Arcade Fire, The Beatles and The Rolling Stones and decided to form a group - even though their experience of playing music at that point was rather limited. Flash forward to 2012 and the lads were spotted by Geir Luedy from leading Scandinavian management company MADE and last year found themselves in the final for the Norwegian Emergenza Festival, the biggest band competition in the world. Now ready to make their assault into the global music market, their sound is epic, reminding us of fellow countrymen A-ha on some of their bolder tracks from the backend of the '80s. Starting off sounding deceptively vulnerable, this ambitious debut single grows in stature with every play and bodes well for a album that should hopefully follow soon in the new year. Telling a familiar tale of heartbreak, the bittersweet tone and solid production lifts this firmly into 'stadium anthem' territory. You'd be foolish to bet against them winning over festival crowds across Europe and beyond next summer. - Record of the Day

Still working on that hot first release.

Siblings always have a special bond; it’s a kind of sixth sense, something that provides that something that nothing else can. When you meet siblings, cousins, you always are driven by the intrigue of the similarities but also the differences. For six Norwegian guys in their late teens, oscillating around one familial spine, a labour of passion and instinct has formed something very special.

Norway is evocative. Musically, culturally, there is a sense of difference. The Well are without a doubt special. When you meet them there is that warm sense of familiarity. When you hear their music you can imagine it filling both the biggest arenas and the most intimate of club spaces. You almost have to stop and ask yourself, why you don’t know about them already?

The Well are TJ (drums), Andrew (bass), Ollie (guitars), Oliver (keys), Stan (guitars), led by Freddy (lead singer). Born and raised on the west coast of Norway just outside the buzzing city of Bergen, as much as The Well’s story begins now it began a decade ago.

Influenced by both music from the past and the present, from Arcade Fire and Haim to The Beatles and The Rolling Stones, their bond formed early, growing up together and going to the same school.

The seed of an idea led to the guys forming a band with little experience of playing instruments. Fast forward 2006 and the guys started their first gigs around Norway and then in 2012 were spotted by seasoned Norwegian music manager, Geir Luedy, of MADE, one of Scandinavia’s leading music management agencies.

Seeing the raw potential, Geir guided and let the band grow within – the result, epic pop – authentic, true, with the potential to have that seismic moment as AHA did three decades ago. Confident but vulnerable, this is a band that dreams big.

Their first single, Separate Ways, is a bold confessional story of heartbreak. Big, emotive and heart warming. It’s everything The Well are about.
