Bio

The winter in canada, is a band, that is mostly just a guy, named Deener. His wife however, calls him Mark.  He sometimes gets his older brother Jay (from the band saucer) to sit in on drums when Deener can’t do it himself and when they play live (so I guess Jay’s in the band too). The band hails from Toronto, Ontario, and that’s in Canada (which in hindsight probably helped inform the choice of band name). They sound like rock and roll music, like a Gibson guitar through an Orange amp at a really high level, like TV on the Radio or 90s rock, mixed with a bit of the Beatles or Motown, if you were to ask them on a good day.

This all started in 2013 when Deener (or Mark if you are speaking with his wife) decided he wanted to write a love letter to rock and roll.  So, he called up his friend Jason Sadlowski who had worked with the likes of the Born Ruffians and Tokyo Police Club and asked for his help. Jason (he also goes by Jay Sad) gladly offered to assist. The album will be called a new way to find people ..., it is 10 songs long. Each song emulated the sounds that Deener grew up listening to and loving.

a new way to find people... by the winter in canada is to be released on November 18, 2014. The album will be released digitally on thewinterincanada.com for free. The album is a bit interactive; you should check it out if you get a chance. His wife certainly thinks he has done a great job. She even took the cover photo for the album (what a great wife!).

Following the release of a new way to find people... , the winter in canada will be doing club gigs in and around the Toronto area and festivals throughout North America.  After that they’ll be working on a new album, Deener and Jay may even get their younger brother Shane to help out on that one too (but they’re not promising him nothing, since he broke Deener’s LEGOs as a kid #NeverForget).
