Bio
The Young Professors are a rock trio heavily inspired by jazz fusion, funk and southern rock. The band began playing together in Fall 2015, pulling from influences like the Alabama Shakes, Kings of Leon, White Denim, the Allman Brothers Band, Phish, Soulive, and many other bands centered around groove. Paul Cook is the lead vocalist and guitar player; with Caleb Followhill-esque vocals and driving infectious guitar rhythms inspired by Duane Allman, BB King, Jimi Hendrix and Eric Krasno. Ben Coffin is on bass with a unique leading style, leaning towards his Jaco Pastorius, Thundercat and John Paul Jones influences. Trent Weaver locks down percussion with deep marching and jazz band roots and admires drummers such as Dennis Chambers, Chad Smith and Carter Beauford.
The band seeks to write fun, danceable groovy music that is both entertaining to listen to and entertaining to play. Their first EP, Southern Greens, was recorded at Ice Cream Factory Studios in Austin, TX and features four original songs ranging from sultry grooves in "Window Shopper" to the syncopated progressive rhythms in "Elephant".
