"King Pepper"

http://www.lavoixdunord.fr/Locales/Dunkerque/actualite/Autour_de_Dunkerque/Agglomeration_de_Dunkerque/2008/09/23/article_in-da-houz-le-coup-de-blues-de-king-pep.shtml

« In Da Houz » de King Pepper.

"w/ Karl davis & the MilkMen"

- Jean Labre

"Delta Groove All-Star Blues Revue 2007"

The Second Annual Delta Groove All-Star Blues Revue took place Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Gibson Beale Street Showcase in Memphis, Tennessee. The event was sub-titled "West Coast Meets Chicago", as it combined the roster of artists from Delta Groove Music with that of Blue Bella Records out of Chicago (run by Nick and Kate Moss). Delta Groove chief Randy Chortkoff and his team put together a well organized, musically amazing showcase that include non-stop great performances from start to finish (all tough, no fluff). The event was co-hosted by Bill Wax, of XM Satellite Radio’s Bluesville Station and Brett Flemming of WEVL 89.9 (Memphis). This was a player's event, and Big Pete Pearson and I were honored to be among the great list of featured performers, which also included The Mannish Boys (with the all star lineup of Finis Tasby, Johnny Dyer, Kid Ramos, Paris Slim, Bobby Jones, Kirk Fletcher, Tom Leavey, Richard Innes, Leon Blue, and Randy Chortkoff who played some great Jimmy Reed-style harp in the set), Nick Moss & The Fliptops with guests Eddie Taylor Jr. and Bill Lupkin (former Jimmy Rogers harp player), The Hollywood Blue Flames (featuring killer harp by Big Al Blake, the legendary Larry Taylor on bass, and a great unscheduled appearance by Kim Wilson), Mitch Kashmar (playing masterful, definitive West Coast harmonica), Kilborn Alley Blues Band, Johnny Long, and The Jackie Payne/Steve Edmondson Band. So many great harmonica players were in the audience of this event, including Memphis kingpin Billy Gibson, Scott Dirks, MANU Frangeul from the French blues band Malted Milk, R.J. Mischo, Dave Gonzalez (Chicago Blues Angels), and more. It was also great to see my dear friend Wesley Race at this event. Big Pete and I were given prime time as we ended The Mannish Boys' set, with two well-received numbers, complete with top-notch backing. Thanks to Randy, Frank, Josh, Kate, Nick, and everyone at Delta Groove and Blue Bella for their kindness and generosity in allowing us on this fantastic show. - Bob Corritore

"My French Connection - Joe Turner"

"My French Connection" is a personal blues odyssey that is partly an acknowledgement to the years that Joe Turner was based in France at a town called Chedigny where he established their annual blues festival. The CD features a number of France's top blues session musicians (Manu Frangeul-harmonicas, Arnaud Fradi-gtr, Julien Brunetaud-keys). The CD is also a series of personal recollections of his life and home in Mississippi. All music and lyrics are produced, arranged and written by Joe Turner

Joe Turner spent eight happy years as bass player and musical director with BB King before launching his own "Memphis Blues Caravan" in the mid nineties with whom he has toured the World playing nearly all of Europe's major festivals.
Joe is a talented multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and band leader and not afraid to also lend his vocals to a number of songs on the new CD, where he is joined by the fabulous singing of Ladonna Smith. Joe Turner is a musician much respected by his peers. He is constantly invited onstage by BB King, who will often recall to the audience "that here is one of my best friends and a great bass player"?. Joe Turner and his Memphis Blues Caravan have twice played with BB King at London's Albert Hall.

Bio

MS Sax Manu & the 13th Bar Project are involved in a creative blues musical process;
Adjusting Acoustic instruments (harmonicas, gtr, lap steel, dobro, celtic harp, upright bass) and electric amps thru analogic effects processing thru the electronics (computer)… What was a seed became a song!

I spent 12 years w/ the international blues band "Malted Milk" as the co-leader > one of my best souvenir is the 2007 IBC Finals we've reached and the blast we did like the only non-american blues band at the finals!! I did minimum 500 gigs in 1 decade…prestigious blues stages like "Springin' The Blues Fest" (april 2002) in Jax Beach,FL. (…)

My "bluesical" vision, understanding & perspectives changed when i began to play in the US, especially the southern part… southern music is my favorite. As a french harp player, i had to see and taste the infinite flavors of american "soul" music (blues, soul, gospel, funk, rock, country, jazz). I realized since my 1st trip in the US (2002) i must spend some times there, like i love to sing in english because my musical culture is american 1st.
So… i'm regulary travelling France-USA w/ my main axe to Memphis & the Mississippi Delta…a love story! I've played at Red's in Clarksdale, on the air with "Sunshine" Sonny Payne(KFFA Radio-King Biscuit Time) playing SBWII's song… In contact w/ Blues musicians & singers, young generation (Cedric Burnside), old generation(Super Chikan,Joe Turner)… they bring me everything i need… i'm curious so…let's play the music!

> Influenced by so many musicians, composers, writers, arrangers, producers, singers ---- from Blues to Hip Hop like from Lightnin' Hopkins to The Roots and in between G Love & Special Sauce.
-Classic Masters : Muddy Waters, James Brown and Stevie Wonder.
-Songwriters/Storytellers: Sonny Boy Williamson II, Tom Waits,Peg Leg Sam, Al Green,Lightnin' Hopkins,JB Lenoir,Sister Rosetta Tharpe…
-Composers/arrangers: Willie Dixon,Duane Allman, Isaac Hayes,Willie Mitchell,…
They are a lot to be significant!!

All this combination of acoustic, electric and electronic musicians show me the way for digging my "bluesical" trail!

Peg Leg Sam is my Hero it got to be said!
Our Music influenced by this whole artistic planet would like to be between the plucks caressing your cheek when you're laying down in your favorite coach…and the hi-energy of some Hot Nites down the Joint!

"…when i turn on the octaver pedal and the T-Wah's, guess the audience looking for minutes and asking at each other "but who is playing that?!!"
from "Blues & Co" french Magazine (winter 2007) … sending my harmonicas over the musical frontiers, it's definitely my trademark!
