"The 1969s"

I been diggin' The 1969s lately. Coming straight outta Dallas, the 1969's rock some good stompin' hardass funqued up blues ala a full band Left Lane Cruiser and/or Hillstomp. Ridin' the party side lyrically and kickin' the door to the party down wearin' ZZ Top's 1981 boots makes for a damn good time. Two free ep downloads via Bandcamp! - Deep Blues

"The 1969s - Throbbing with an Unstoppable Pulse"

You can tell when you’re about to enjoy some true authentic Rock N Roll styling’s when the first couple of riffs of a song is being delivered from a blaring harmonica in the style of Sonny Boy Williamson. The 1969's bring their brand of Rock and Blues via foot thumping rhythms and ganged up vocals; especially on tracks like, “And I Will”. This band truly stresses the up swinging good times of the Rock N Roll lifestyle. Their songs are very upbeat and throb with an unstoppable pulse. One can image this group backing up Muddy Waters in juke joints on the Southside of Chicago. The 1969's have two self released EP’s on their band camp page @ http://the1969s.bandcamp.com/

After the jump, check out their song, “And I Will” from their Ride EP. We’ve included the song in our ROCKANDROLLBLUES.COM YouTube series. - Rock and Roll Blues

"THE 1969s Dirty EP"

Before listening to the first downbeat, one could probably presume from name alone that The 1969s are deeply rooted in retro sounds. This is most definitely the case with their debut four-song Dirty EP, which they are currently offering for free download on their BandCamp site. The Dallas band describes their sound as "party blues," which is just about right: There's nothing too complex here, just some nice blues-lite guitar riffs and simple lyrics that would be in good company with cheap beer and whiskey.

Unfortunately, there's not much else to write home about. The song "You Lookin' So Good I Had to Buy a Suit" is the biggest highlight here with its bouncy ramble, and it's the closest the band gets to any kind of swagger. It also finds the band at their most lyrically clever, filled with the exact kind of outlandish come-ons the song's title would imply.

The extended guitar jams and harmonica solos found sporadically on the rest of the EP hint that there might be more to this band eventually. Until then, though, we're left with a very small collection of songs from a band that has some talent and promise, but little to show for it.

For now, these tracks offer a harmless, somewhat fun listen, but not much more. - Dallas Observer

"The 1969s – Ride [EP]"

“Party blues” is an accurate description of The 1969s retro-rooted sound. The Dallas four-piece dive into the delta blues, emerging with toe-tapping melodies and sporadic harmonica solos.

As the average track lasts just over two and half minutes, the listening experience ends rather quickly, however the combination of jangly guitar riffs and simplistic lyrics will be lapped up gratefully by boozy bar crowds. - Chybucca Sounds

Bio

The 1969s are a small self labeled “Party Blues” band formed in 2008 in Dallas, Texas with a massive sound. Rooted in foot-stomping delta blues with tastes of funk and down right booty shakin’ grooves. This band puts on a rockin’ juke joint style show and everyone in the room has a party.
