Bio

We got with a couple of friends in order to write this bio. We're not always the best at talking about ourselves, so they helped us get this together:

The 2 Left Shoes, both from Cleveland, Ohio, consists of singer/songwriter/musician Leah Lou and bassist/musician Daniel Lee. The former indie label mates met in early 2009 and quickly realized that they shared the same, ultimate, musical interests. The duo, originally a trio, formed soon after.

A week before a performance, Leah and Daniel's drummer took a hike, posing the issue of how they were going to incorporate percussion into their performance. Thinking on their toes, the decision was made-- "let’s just stomp our feet!", Daniel suggested. Since they do not dance often, they enjoyed the silly anecdote of being two left feet, sticking with “The 2 Left Shoes” as their name.

Though they have recently had excellent opportunities [2013-- MTV.com's featured artist for a week-- song: "Come Over" (Album: "Dotty"), Tina Shafer's NY Songwriters Circle, Jim Henke is writing two articles on their new, local, open mic night, news to play with Mr. Gnome, etc.] they have yet to catch their "big break", so to speak. We are hoping that 2014's South by Southwest will provide that break, without anything falling through the cracks.

Above all, this kind-hearted, sometimes sailor-mouthed duo is known for their DIY creativity. In the beginning, they tied plastic bags to their feet and used a cooler hooked up to a pedal for a kick drum. The plastic bags on their feet mimicked the sound of a snare drum, as they stomped. Their DIYs evolved when Daniel found a garbage can in his apartment hallway. He grabbed the garbage can, slapped on a pedal, and their trashcan kick drum was a hit. With the addition of another garbage can kick drum, a tap shoe, tambourine, glockenspiel, toy piano, and a loop pedal, came the beginning of an ever evolving project, which continues to take audiences by surprise. Aside, before Leah and Daniel joined forces, they were successful in their own right.

Leah Lou was a solo artist who quickly made her mark on the Cleveland music scene. Playing shows all over Cleveland was only the start for this self-taught musician. Local television and radio were requesting her music, and she was soon being asked to open for national acts that came to Cleveland, and a bit in the west coast as well. Some of those acts included Don Felder (formerly of The Eagles), Marc Broussard, and Eric Hutchinson. Leah was requested to get in on Chuck Mosley's (former front man of Faith No More); album "Will Rap Over Hard Rock for Food". The album featured artists Michael Cartellone (Lynyrd Skynyrd), Roddy Bottum (Faith No More), and Jonathan Davis (Korn). Leah Lou's songwriting abilities and unique voice grabbed their attention, leaving them wanting more.

Daniel Lee is a highly respected bassist, regarded as one of the top in Cleveland. In his earlier years, he won the "Outstanding Musicianship" award, 5 years in a row, from the Tri-C Jazz Fest. Lee graduated with a major in music from the Cleveland School of the Arts, where he studied with jazz legends such as Max Roach and Abe Laboriel. Though being accepted into the Berkley College of Music was an honor, Daniel decided to tour and record instead. He has shared the stage with artists Dudley Moore, Barry Manilow, and Jimmy Buffett (to name a few). Not only has Daniel Lee performed in front of crowds as large as 20,000 people- he has had the privilege of performing for former-presidents of the united states.

The two toe-tappers continue to reinvent the music scene with their quirky, yet relevant, tunes and nontraditional stage setup. Their words will touch your soul, your funny bone, and the beat will have you stomping along with them. Leah Lou & Daniel Lee compliment one another so much so that their lyrics, melodies, and overall energy create an incomparable concert experience. Seemingly, they have jumped through every hoop, and have been through the upest of the ups and the downest of the downs. They are unstoppable. I mean, come on-- Leah and Daniel make the work "puking" sound melodic. If that's not talent... (ref: "Drunk, Stupid, & Used"-- from the album "This Music Belongs to You")

As a side note, The 2 Left Shoes occasionally incorporate a guest drummer named Ashanti Allison. He is more than capable of playing literally every genre of music. However, he is seasoned in funk, jazz, rock, soul, and hip hop, playing with and for some of the top in the entertainment world, as well as underground greats. Ashanti absolutely matches The 2 Left Shoes's vibe and adds his own flare. The collaboration of this trio never disappoints. As they expand their music, Ashanti will be a permanent member.

(Leah and Daniel are affiliated with ASCAP and BMI, but are unable to choose both from the drop-down menu in the "Basic Info/Details" section of this online EPK)
