"A Nomenclature Battle: What's in an Abyss?"

Abyss is the bottomless gulf, pit, or chaos of the old cosmogonies.

"To me it represents a place within myself. A never ending dark spot within. Every time that as a child I spoke up only to be ignored or ridiculed, every time that someone I loved left my life to leave me standing alone wondering why. It represents that hole that I have crawled into again and again throughout my life as well as my journey to rise from that very darkness to crawl out, to step forward, and to start again no matter how deep I might have fallen into the abyss.

"Interview: The Abyss"

The Abyss is an American rock/alternative band based around Texas and I must say they are like no other band from the US. When you sit back and let yourself get immersed in their music it takes you to a time of the late 80’s when rock had mysticism and romance. When I heard them first it felt like I had heard them and known of them for many (too many lol) years. They sound like one of the great British bands from the 80’s. - Alteria Motives

"The Rocks Off 100: Sean Ozz, Wizard of The Abyss"

Sean Ozz fronts what might be Houston's best dark rock act, The Abyss. I gave them long odds against ever getting anywhere in a town that prefers its goth force-fed in electronica form, but inch by inch the Ozz has dragged the band forward until they've managed to build an astounding presence. - Houston Press Rocks Off

"Musicians Unite To Help Abyss Singer's Injured Son"

Saturday at BFE Rock Club, the doors, and hopefully the pockets of music fans, will open for a benefit concert. Scheduled to be included in the festivities are long running local legends like The Hates and Provision, as well as Black Kennedy, Harem Festival, Sheila Swift and more.
Well-wishers have donated some impressive items for sale at the event, everything from artwork to guitars to a Galveston condo. All proceeds will go towards paying Zain's medical bills.

"100 Creatives: Sean Ozz"

He is also the lead singer of the Abyss, who rocked the Houston Zombie Walk this weekend and just released their debut EP It's About Time. We recommend "Beautiful Lie" for its textbook spookiness and modern rock edge. He also does custom paints for guitars.

"Band Watch Houston: The Abyss"

"The Abyss stands out on their own upon a sea of imitators in a new world of alternative music. Melodic hard driven bass lines fill your head. Empowering drum mechanics lock everything together. Unique voice and deep lyrics touch a familiar sadness everyone that has endured at some point in their lives while grasping onto hope and chance for a better future."

The Abyss' music hints of influences like The Cure, The Clash and The Sex Pistols. Ronnie Kopal's melodic bass and guitar lines merge uniquely with Paul Cannon's edgy punk/old school alternative drum style. Sean Ozz's heartfelt vocals and dark lyrics echo of personal, painful life experiences we can all relate to yet they express a hope that one would never think to look for in the depths of The Abyss.
