The Action Item

BandRockAlternative

Innovative guitar work, introspective lyrics, memorable vocal melodies and a driving rhythm mark the sound of The Action Item, who strive to carve their own brand of rock while staying strong to their mainstream rock roots.

Biography

The Action Item came together when singer/songwriter/guitarist Costin Tuculescu began seeking out other talented musicians to deliver his riff driven, wall-of-distortion rock music. Bassist Carl Whittington soon joined Costin, bringing in influences ranging from Midwestern folk to funk along with a mellow, smooth vibe to the songs. Guitarist Ryan Tarkanian joined the duo bringing with him harmonic layers of sound, complex rhythms, engaging melodies, and a quirky power-pop sound that had been lacking. Drummer Gabe Soriano, influenced by everything from Sinatra to Slayer, rounded out the group by injecting his diverse musical style to the alternative rock based mix. Forging their various influences, the group began defining their unique musical style by playing many shows in and around Orange County and Los Angeles.

The Action Item soon became regulars at local hot spots including DiPiazza’s in Long Beach, Gallagher’s in Huntington Beach, the Back Alley in Fullerton, and The Good Hurt in Los Angeles, which allowed the band to quickly build a fan base through a steady following of friends, family, and local music fans. Soon, the demand for an album became prevalent and the boys quickly began planning their debut EP.

The Action Item emerged from the studio with an 8-song audio assault titled “Life As Usual.” A wide assortment of introspective lyrics, 3 part vocal harmonies, screaming guitar solos, chunky bass riffs, and punctual drum beats await the courageous listener of this ambitious debut album. With “Life As Usual,” The Action Item is out for blood, ready to engage listeners with a diverse spectrum of musical ability. They look forward to playing more Southern California dates, radio shows, local summer festivals, multi-state tours, and any opportunity that awaits them.

Lyrics

Unattainable

Written By: Costin Tuculescu

Moving on, can you hear any of these words.
They’re on your skin, are they sinking in, is this talk or just a dream?
Cause all the things I found out about you now only pull me in to find what you’re really all about.

But I know, you’ve got my head in a spin; my stomach’s inside out; I’m learning to get by, taking punches, moving on and getting over you.

You’re unattainable… it’s in the way you say no.

I’m just waiting for you now, I’m wasting for you now;
I’m just thinking of the better days when you would say… yeah what would you say?

But I know, you’ve got my head in a spin; my stomach’s inside out; I’m learning to get by, taking punches, moving on and getting over you.

You’re unattainable… it’s in the way you say no.

The things you say… intimidate me; you don’t say no, you just say maybe;
Its been so long, since I first met you, I always knew there was something there, I just wish you felt that way about me!

40,000 Feet (Kento)

Written By: The Action Item

Takes a load off, sits right down.
Shakes my hand we order our first round.
Drops his lime and takes a sip, tells a story about his last trip.

And I’m wishing I had gone along…
but these roots just run to deep.
But when the time comes to reflect…
there won’t be a thing he’ll regret.

And you can see the ground beneath him fall away.
At forty thousand feet…
and when he finally touches down, that’s when he’ll be complete.

Signs go by on the 405… screams along with his hi-fi.
Pulls right up to the Wilshire Grand, for tonite he is her man.

And he’ll show her the best time in LA, for tomorrow she flies back… 12 hour flights and bullet trains; cherry blossoms, baseball games; he’s flying off to brand new heights with her.

And you can see the ground beneath him fall away.
At forty thousand feet…
and when he finally touches down, that’s when he’ll be complete.

The days go by so fast…
before you know it we’re just old and gray…
but there’s one thing he won’t say.

And you can see the ground beneath him fall away.
At forty thousand feet…
and when he finally touches down, that’s when he’ll be complete.

Act Up

Written By: Costin Tuculescu

I don’t know.
I don’t know this for sure.
But I have to warn you, warn you of my growing concern.
Don’t get defensive, if I’m wrong than I’m just a fool.
But please consider what the opposite might cost... cost you.

So listen up, and just give this a thought.
You’re 45, step out of bed but you can’t, as hard as you try.
IV needles, bedside nurse, your life you’ve wasted, now you’re cursed; if you don’t act up you won’t act up at all.

So make up your mind…
decide to find time…
if you don’t act up now, you won’t act at all.

Just let go.
Of the things that hold you back.
Focus forward, know your limits and stay – stay on track.
I supposed these things I’m saying are closed minded, condescending, but my friend I hope you hear this, just take care, I’m yours sincerely.

So make up your mind…
decide to find time…
if you don’t act up now, you won’t act at all.
