-theAdores- theAdores are a Niagara-based band that incorporate elements of classic folk rock along with a strong emphasis on story-telling in their lyrical approach. theAdores are a group of old friends celebrating the gift of life through the gift of song. Welcome friends ... we are theAdores.

Biography

Our approach to music is simplified and organic. All our songs start on acoustic instruments and we build in layers. Since we're friends before bandmates we use music as a means of gathering and sharing our talents. This is why we feel comfortable with the 'folk' label. We strum guitars and sing melodies and eventually Bobby's brushes hit the drums with a certain rhythm and Ed's sly fingers meet the keys and after some refining it all comes together into song. When we have the opportunity to perform these songs we attempt to engage one another and the audience through intimate and inviting performances. We like our show to be a comfortable experience so we choose our venues wisely. We would like for you to hear our words and our voices, since there has been much care put into these songs. A typical theAdores' gig would find you nestled into a cozy cafe corner at a table with some friends coloring the artwork Bobby creates for each individual show. We encourage you to take one of Bran's postcards home from the show and write to someone dear to you. If you know the words, sing with us or grab a tambourine and shake it. That's what they're there for really.

It's music we're making.
It's meant to be shared.

We'll always be friends and we'll always be writing songs so this is natural for us to do.

Recognition is appreciation.

Lyrics

I Want You

Written By: Brandon Agnew

i want you soft spoken and swollen lip.
i want you today, tonight, and for the hell of it.
i want you and all your beautiful bullshit.
i want you and that's the end of it.

i want you fashion-prone and perfect prose.
i want you cause you know how the story goes.
i want you even if your kisses are counterfeit.
i want you the version sold on the black market.

i want you babbling brook and full of charm.
i want you and i intend you no harm.
i want you tongue-twisted and ready to leave.
i want you to catch yourself sayin' how much you want me.

oh, i got a parking meter's worth of coins in my pocket,
two suede patches on my corduroy jacket,
tickets to the show and the smell of your sweet perfume.
i want you.

i want you a rush to my head, a ghost in my attic.
i want you the song on the radio when i'm stuck in traffic.
i want you, your habits, your vices, your sensory static.
i want you.

i want you the last trick up my sleeve everytime.
i want you to set me up for the old twenty-nine.
i want you bathing in your boozefruit.
i want you.
i want you.

i want you.
i want you.

The Mistress & The Minstrel

Written By: Brandon Agnew

The Mistress and the Minstrel off frolicking in the garden where thorny blueberry bushes keep the blackbirds at bay.

Easy springtime walking on the banks of her beauty, circular conversation and finding in it poetry.

Sha la la la la la ...

He asks her home for easter and promises a pony. Grandma gets into the red wine and starts a backyard parade.

As if accustomed to this behavior he finds the moment quite lovely. He raises a toast to his gracious hosts and the blessing of good company.

Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la la love songs ...
Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la decisions ...

Homemade wine in the summertime, I've got no money but I feel filthy rich.

With baked beans, corn-on-the-cob and dandelion wine left over from the seventies.

Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la la love songs ...
Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la decisions ...

So in keeping with this story, yes, I am the minstrel. Keeping my time, slapping my thigh even while I sleep.

And she speaks of me in the past tense, my lovely, lovely mistress. I've become a pronoun and that's the best place for me to be.

Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la la love songs ...
Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la decisions ...

Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la la love songs ...
Sha la la la la la ...
Sha la la decisions ...

Homemade wine in the summertime,
I've got no money but I feel filthy rich.

Smoke & Mirrors

Written By: Brandon Agnew

doctor, doctor what's this going on in my head?
mistresses and mistresses, i cant keep tabs on them.
broken lines and broken hearts some never meant to mend.
i'll see you through ...

whiskey and honey with some kind of flare might soothe this aching cough.
i wanna walk in and find you there and slowly tell you off.
your verified linens soft to the touch, i don't care to peel them off.
i'll see you through ...

i could've sworn it to be ...
i could've sworn it to be ...
... but our love was all smoke and mirrors.

our love was all smoke and mirrors.

can i up just to say goodbye this last time?
can i get enough just to play my tunes so sweet?
can i get myself over you and through these smoke and mirrors?

i could've sworn it to be ...
i could've sworn it to be ...
i could've sworn it to be ...

but i'm out of line, i'm misaligned, i'm playing in a minor key.
the curtains drawn, you still turn me on, i'm your faithless understudy.
each mistake reverberates and it finds its way to me in its truest form.

i could've sworn it to be you ...
i could've sworn it to be true ...
... but our love was all smoke and mirrors.

our love was all smoke and mirrors. smoke and mirrors.

doctor, doctor what's this going on in my head?

Ya Ya

Written By: Brandon Agnew

ya ya i've been something.
ya ya you're something too.
ya ya this world needs something to snap its fingers to.

ya ya i've been lonely.
ya ya i've been blue.
ya ya there's certainly something i seem to turn to.

ya ya i've been thinking.
ya ya i walk the line.
ya ya i get caught drinking and sometimes i get high.

if the devil's in the soul of rock n' roll the devil's alright by me.
written in the stars, dealt in the cards ...
... deal a good hand before you drop dead.

ya ya the floor is jumping.
ya ya i feel like jumping too.
ya ya this world needs something to snap its fingers to.

so go and tell your momma.
now go and tell your dad.
and go and tell your sister that this is the best you've had.

ya ya i've been something.
ya ya you're something too.
ya ya this world needs something to snap its fingers to.

ya ya i've been lonely.
ya ya i've been blue.
ya ya there's certainly something i seem to turn to.

if the devil's in the soul of rock n' roll the devil's alright by me.
written in the stars, dealt in the cards ...
... deal a good hand before you drop dead.

ya ya
ya ya
ya ya
ya ya
ya ya
ya ya
ya ya

Afterthoughts

Written By: Brandon Agnew

'd travel 'cross the ocean just to sing her praise
non-functional and broken in so many ways
but you talk of sunflowers, you talk of afterthoughts
lately i've been thinkin' bout the cheapest way to get myself out of this town

it was right of you to notice that my tone had changed
no ellipsis in my letter and you sensed that it was strange
well lately i feel better, at least i don't feel like an afterthought
tonight we talked about that summer night just listening to the coyotes sing

tonight we talked about that summer night reading allen ginsberg
tonight we talked about that summer night tapdancing in your kitchen
but you talk of sunflowers, you talk of afterthoughts
lately i've been thinkin' bout the cheapest way to get myself out of this town

pick me a line and place it and play me a little something before you go.
she said, "pick me a line and place it, and play me a little something before you go"

you talk of sunflowers, you talk of afterthoughts ...
