Hailing from a city with a musical history as illustrious and influential as Liverpool has its advantages and its drawbacks. On the plus side, the music and spirit of The Beatles, The La's and Shack are practically embedded within your genetic makeup from birth - nothing to be sniffed at.. yet on the other hand, this can lead to an inward looking, creatively incestuous mentality within the city's creative folks.
The Albany are all too aware this, and aim to create a sound that draws from the roots of Liverpool's distinctive sound, yet spreads its wings further afield.
Taking influence from sea shanties (as one would expect from a band from a city literally married to the sea), gypsy ballads, delta blues and the poetry of W.B. Yeats & Dylan Thomas, not to mention artists such as Tom Waits, Leonard Cohen and Bob Marley to name but a few, The Albany are carrying the torch of the Mersey delta into the 21st century.
