"It was like Dayton in Columbus"

Next up was The Alchemy Kings. Now there were 3 of them, and their energy was on HIGH. They interacted with each other and moved around the entire bar looking like they were having a ball. The music was great, and their song Body Shoppe is still in my head (& they did get a brownie point or two when Esquire shouted me out from the stage, LOL). Esquire seemed to be the charmer, and Adrian (the singer) can REALLY sing…I know this because he sat on my lap and sang directly into my ear…then there is Mr. Murda, who I described as “the dragon”…spitting fire. I really enjoyed The Alchemy Kings and I look forward to hearing and seeing more from them. Next up was T. Hunt and Biggs. Again, a good deal of energy and they moved around the entire bar too. The music was good and they interacted great with each other as well. - Andrea Speakz

"The Alchemy Kings"

My first official AndreaSpeakz outing was on Friday April 20, 2012 and I found a gem. Hopefully you read my previous post “It was Like Dayton Night In Columbus”; if not, feel free to check it out J …anyway…close friends of mine can tell you, that every once in a while I’ll hear an artist and/or a song and I’m struck. There’s no real way I can explain it, I’ll just feel like there’s something a little extra special about it/them. I got that feeling when I watched The Alchemy Kings that night.

When I heard about the show I saw that The Alchemy Kings was one of the opening acts. I had never heard of them before, but I liked the name, it was something memorable…I mean, you don’t hear the word alchemy being thrown around too much these days, so that got my attention….and just in case any of you don’t know what the word means, Merriam-Webster defines it as…

1 : a medieval chemical science and speculative philosophy aiming to achieve the transmutation of the base metals into gold, the discovery of a universal cure for disease, and the discovery of a means of indefinitely prolonging life

2: a power or process of transforming something common into something special

…so, they started off well. Good name. They were the second act to hit the stage that night, and it was a “so far so good“ situation. I can be extremely picky about music, so if I can sit and listen to your music, you’re already ahead of the game in my book. So; 3 guys take the stage, they talk to the audience a little bit…ok, they definitely act like they’ve been here before. They’re moving around the place (& each other) pretty well (side note — pet peeve of mine is someone who gets on stage and just kinda stands there) ok…1st song; hey, this is pretty good…2nd song; yo, these guys are kinda nice…3rd song; who are these dudes, and why haven’t I heard of them before!? I mean; the other acts were good, but there was something about these guys. I knew “that feeling” of mine was no joke when I realized that I was singing their song Body Shoppe all the way home, and the next morning when I woke up. And it wasn‘t like one of those annoying songs that gets stuck in your head & you’re mad about it…it was one of those songs that you find yourself singing that puts a little pep in your step. Seriously…who are these guys!?

As soon as I can I hop back on twitter, reach out and ask them to send me some information. The night of the performance I found out they were from Dayton, OH. OK. Their bio breaks down the 3 members…

* Adrian Jones: Lead R&B Vocalist

* Travis “Mr. Murda” Ward: Producer/Rap Vocalist

* Maurice “Esquire Fontane” McElrath: Hook Author/Rap Vocalist

…OK. Then I get to 1 line that gets me from OK to OH SCHNAP! …“Formed November 2011”. Wait, WHAT!? HOL’UP; you’re telling me these guys have only been a group for like 6 months; you have got to be kidding me! Now I am thoroughly impressed.

Part of their info said “The group as a whole are Southern Ohio vets and exude stage presence.”…they sure aren’t lying about that, LOL! I’m looking forward to hearing more from them. They are working on an EP that is set to be released in the fall of 2012, and there are songs on their band camp page to tide us over until then (http://alchemykings.bandcamp.com/). Apparently I need to get out more, because there info also let me know that they have opened for acts like Twista, Gorilla Zoe, Gucci Mane, AceHood, Freeway, JR Writer, Al B. Sure, and more. Now that I’m “in the know” I will definitely catch one or more of their upcoming shows.
