The Amaury

The Amaury

BandRock

The Amaury makes you feel like rock 'n roll is supposed to make you feel - energized, excited, transported. They love playing music, and they play it from their hearts. Driving rhythms, intense breakdowns, guitar harmonics, powerful vocals - not one song sounds the same. Serious musicians - no egos

Biography

The Amaury began in May 2005 when drummer Derek Broomhead and bassist Collin Rocker joined lead singer and lyricist Mark Sandman and guitarist Corey Mastrangelo and together began working to create original music with a sound all their own. Lead guitarist Chad Cook joined the band in early 2006.

By the end of their first month playing together, The Amaury had won first place in the Charter Day Battle of the Bands in New Jersey, competing against ten bands older and more experienced than they. Soon recognized as an up and coming talent on the local music scene, The Amaury began appearing at venues including The Stone Pony, Hamilton Street Cafe, CBGB's and Bloomfield Avenue Cafe. They have had return appearances at Starland Ballroom, and performed in NYC at The Knitting Factory, R & R, The Annex, Arlene's Grocery and The Bitter End. In addition, the band always makes time for local events and fundraisers.

In August 2006, the Amaury won first prize in the Jersey Shows Battle of the Bands held at Starland Ballroom in Sayreville, NJ. Over a five-month period of time, they competed against 253 bands to win the title. Jersey Shows presented the band with an extensive prize package including cash, a promo package, and studio time.

In the fall of 2006, MTV2 filmed The Amaury's set at CBGBs in NYC during The Meany Festival and interviewed the band after the show.

An extremely focused and motivated group of musicians, The Amaury is also deeply committed to supporting Rock the Earth, an environmental non-profit organization. They donate a portion of all their proceeds to this charity.

Drawing on very different musical influences ranging from 60's psychedelic rock to modern hard rock, each member of the band adds his own unique style to The Amaury’s original compositions. Corey Mastrangelo's hardcore rhythm guitar showcases Chad Cook's more classic style guitar licks perfectly. At the heart of the band is Derek Broomhead, whose driving energy, passionate playing, and brilliant talent on drums creates the foundation for the entire band. Collin Rocker, who studies with bass legend Jack Casady of Jefferson Airplane/Hot Tuna fame and Mike Visceglia, long-time bassist for Suzanne Vega, creates complex and melodic bass lines that complete one of the best rhythm sections in any young band performing today. Mark Sandman leads The Amaury with his range of vocal styles and an ability to draw the audience into their performance. With their intense breakdowns, powerful rhythms and well thought lyrics, The Amaury puts on a show that is not to be missed.

The Amaury recently completed a new EP, produced by Zak Soulam and Mike Visceglia, and they continue to work on new material.

They were seen performing this past summer on Van's Warped Tour, and they are a finalist in the 2007 Session I John Lennon Songwriting Contest.

Dance Jam

Written By: Rocker/Sandman

There's something in the water that makes them lose their minds
There's something in this song that makes me groove
Let it roll, Let it roll
What's pleasing you, is killing me
Because I know, because I know
This little thing will set you free
If we work together I know we'll find
Something in common that makes us unwind
Let it roll, Let it roll
What's pleasing you, is killing me
Because I know, because I know
This little thing will set you free
Just dance the night away
All you gotta do is dance
Hey there girl where'd you get those moves?
Oh, that's right, those are my own grooves
Just face it now
You'll never break it down like me
Let it roll, Let it roll
What's pleasing you, is killing me
Because I know, because I know
This little thing will set you free
Because I know
Because I know
This little thing will set you free

My Uncle Got Slapped By A Gypsy

Written By: Broomhead/Sandman

It doesn't have to end, it doesn't have to end
I can make it on my own, I can make it on my own
Let go
I wouldn't know
I'm not from around here
I'm coming back again, this message I'm to send
The difference between you and me
The writing on the wall explains for once and all
The hidden things that you couldn't see
It doesn't have to end, it doesn't have to end
I can make it on my own, I can make it on my own
I hope this message finds you safely
I know the letter might offend thee
I'm never getting home
Don't kill the messenger

Grandma's Got A Brand New Bag

Written By: Broomhead/Sandman

This is no cry for help
You ain't seen nothing yet baby
I'll give this town something to talk about
The Amaury's! @ The Disco Now
Shouts and screams play back to me
Like this record playing over in my mind
Time's run out to make everything alright
You'll find out too late anyway
So here we are again
You said we would never make it
But we've made it this far
Two years and going strong
Time's run out to make everything alright
(What do you take me as?)
You'll find out too late anyway
(I hope you take the right path)
C'mon, this song is far from over
I know something isn't right, tonight
Time's run out to make everything alright
(What do you take me as?)
You'll find out too late anyway
(I hope you take the right path)

Slow Jam

Written By: Rocker/Sandman

Blinding lights come to your rescue
You look so clear since I last saw you
The warmth of your hand is here as you pull away
I'd keep you close so that you can't stray
We all saw evil that day
We all have lost something now that you're gone
I remember on our very last day
As we watched the sunrise
And our shadows formed on the grass
It created a picture
It seemed like forever
We all saw evil that day
We all have lost something now that you're gone
You won't be forgotten
This was not your time
Time to go
But I'll be there soon
Yes I'll be there soon
