"The Amber Estate"

Golden tones, crisp beats and melodic blends abound to create the pop-rock sound of the Amber Estate’s self-titled album. Surprising chord progressions give the band’s music an original quality, although I caught hints of Radiohead in the mix of electronics and lyrical content and tones of the Police in the high-streaming harmonies.

The first few seconds of each song hook the listener for the entirety: each track kept me wondering what was next until the album was finished. The only thing to rearrange about the album is the song order: tracks such as “Farm Scene,” “Deelicious” and “You, As Well,” played locally on WMSE, Lazer 103 and Rock 102.1, are followed by a block of slower, often more interesting tunes. Whether you prefer unbroken or radio-tested territory, it’s hard not to marvel at the consistent appeal of the album’s 10 songs.

My advice: Find a cozy room, sink into an overstuffed chair and enjoy every whimsical vibration. For added effect, get lost in the raindrop patterns on your window on a gray day. The Amber Estate has created a space of freedom for listeners to think, write, converse, sing along and just enjoy. -- Grace D’Amore

"The Amber Estate Saturday March 6th w/ Mark Mallman"

In just a few months, and with just a few shows in Eau Claire, the Amber Estate, a Minneapolis-based art-rock band, has turned quite a few heads in the right direction.

Their unique choices of instrumentation, including a bass/guitar hybrid, a series of keys and synths, and even some subtle lap steel along with driving jazz-influenced drums, create a sound as full and textured as you could ever expect from a trio.

Dense with vocal harmonies and intricate-yet-accessible hooks, the Amber Estate creates genuinely fresh rock songs, so fresh it’s hard to hear exactly where they might be coming from. Take any really great pop tune and tilt it to the left just a touch, that’s the sound of the Amber Estate. – Nick Meyer, editor

"The Amber Estate"

Like Lots of bands before it, The Amber Estate started life in high school-- in this case, Oconomowoc High School. The group graduated from less serious teenage bands to this one, which celebrates the release of its self titled debut on Saturday. A solid, well-produced alt-rock album, The Amber Estate stands a good chance of finding an enthusiastic audience.
