"The American Spirit: Spaces"

Call me old fashioned, but I sure love a tortured artist. That expression that says.. this is painful as hell for me to sing to you, but it’s my therapy and if I didn’t I’d be daytime drunk, chain smoking in a dive bar. Gabe Strycharz, frontman for Austin-based The American Spirit, totally gives me that vibe. He probably eats about 6 meals a week and only owns boots. Or maybe he just has an awesome metabolism and is really into fitness. Regardless of the true story, The American Spirit does what they do very well. If you’re a fan of Americana, Folk, Ryan Adams-esque good music.. this is right up your alley. The 6 song EP Spaces can be downloaded on their bandcamp page for whatever you can afford. Standouts include Cold Steel, and Come Outside which features guest vocals by Meg Frampton of Meg & Dia. Perfect for a cloudy day! - KickKickSnare - written by Eavie

Bio

Hailing from Southern California is The American Spirit; a folk rock band comprised of Gabe Strycharz on lead vocals and guitar, Adam Morgan on bass, keys, guitars, and backing vocals, and Nick Price on drums and percussion, the group’s deepest roots reach back to Austin, Texas. It was Austin that set the stage for their last EP, James Street, which was recorded on the street with the same name. With an extensive history of writing and performing together, Strycharz and Morgan met Price around 2005 and from this meeting, The American Spirit was born. With two of the band members now living on the west coast, they have found their place amongst the California music scene.

The American Spirit released their first EP, Spaces, in 2011. Now, with the expected arrival of their first official full-length record in early 2015. The album is expected to explore some darker themes. Based on recent events, "this record was a way in which to process tragedy."  Though heavy in content, there is a sense of hope in the delivery.

Finding lyrical influences from the likes of Bob Dylan to David Bazan, and sound influences from a vast number today’s musicians to classic bands such as the Beatles and Elliott Smith.  The American Spirit is melody driven, folk rock.
