What makes music great? Hmmmm... I read once that great music that is original and compelling often comes about in times of economic diversity or social upheaval. Well, we are no doubt in a period of time that is a “perfect storm” for this sort of thing... The only problem is: where is this great art in the music industry of today? Well, I could go into all of my crackpot conspiracy theories but this is not the appropriate venue to do so. Let’s just say that on SignMeTo, the music of protest and social change is alive and well! Let’s check some of it out, shall we? And let’s give it the recognition it deserves!

Down with the corporate dogs that march across the earth? Probably the best example that I have discovered here on the site is Toronto’s The Ancient Order. They have a blend of acoustic guitars, violins and polyrhythms to make any prog fan salivate. Their lyrics speak of corporate conspiracies and the corruption within the World Bank. They bid the many to overthrow the few. It’s good food for thought. We know the system can’t change overnight, but if we all do our part, perhaps it can change enough to make a difference? - PD Freeman
