Fronted by the maniacal and mesmerizing Russian poet Artem Alexeev, The Artems deliver an engulfing and truly original live show. Artem's sidekick is the Chinese-Austrian opera singer Lai San and the odd but strangely alluring couple sings, howls and recites over a deep groove delivered by a formidable band. The Artems present a bewitching mix of a multitude of cultures, resulting in a musical experience quite unlike anything else, equal parts hard rocking power polka and grotesque cabaret.
The Artems has toured to great succes in Germany and Russia supporting the Russian band Leningrad (sosimc.ru). The contact between the two bands was made at the rock club Docks in Sct. Pauli in the mythological rock city of Hamburg, where Russian super star and frontman of Leningrad, Sergej Shnurov, fell desperately in love with The Artems' crazy live show. The Russian concert goers and media also lost their hearts to The Artems when they experienced the Danish band at full throttle.
Danish music magazine Gaffa has given the band two five-starred reviews, stating: ”The Artems is Baal on laughing gas. Here's food for more than one concert” and ”The band combines sunny ska, charleston, tango, zorba, balkan, reggae, surf western, pop, rock and their completely own x-factor. This band is really going places!”
