"the Ashgrove - Photo Album"

"...Vocalist Jeremy Jongejan comes off as a cross between U2's Bono and Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder as he conveys his vocal lines with earnest. Drummer Rick Lobb seems to dominate the mix and propel the music foward with sparse guitar work that weaves in and out urging you to follow in a dramatic fashion...the band has done a good job of combining their influences...Great arrangements keep the music interesting....Photo Album is right up there for one of the top indie releases of the year"

"the Ashgrove - Photo Album"

"...the band is rapidly developing by focusing on songs that are built on solid foundations, yet aren't afraid to follow their own sonic momentum when the feeling is right...the band adroitly juggles sonic brush strokes with enough hooks and melodies to keep the listener's ear...Like any good Photo Album, this stuff is worth revisiting."
- March/April 2000
- Canadian Musician Magazine

"the Ashgrove - Photo Album"

"...all the works necessary to be huge...these boys know what's going on in the song department!"
- Luca D'Addario - Tandem Magazine

"the Ashgrove - Photo Album"

"a disc that taps into the focused urgency of early U2, the blurry layers of Radiohead and the flashy bravado of Bush."
- Oct 1999
- Chart Magazine

Bio

Passion is the fuel that drives independent music and nowhere is this more prevalent than in Goderich, Ontario - home of "radio friendly modern rockers", the Ashgrove. Together since Dec 1994, with 3 albums in their roster, the Ashgrove have released their 4th independently produced effort on May 6th, 2004, which has been the result of 3 years of preparation. Not just a collection of songs, this album is rich in production and weaves musical segue’s throughout, tying the songs together, so that the listener is left with something new to discover upon each listen.
With 1999’s release of Photo Album, three of the singles found their way onto playlists at commercial radio stations across Canada including FM96 (London), K106.3 (Sarnia), The Rock (Chatham) and FM94 (Prince George, BC). The buzz was started with the first single Beauty Myth, but things took off with Never Change when it spent three weeks on the "Top 5 Request" chart at FM94 and the video - directed by guitarist Lonny Doherty - received frequent feature play on Much Music's Indie Spotlight. Songs from Photo Album also received feature play at a list of stations such as CFOX (Vancouver), CJAY (Calgary), Edge 102 (Toronto) and CHOM-FM (Montreal).
Licensing opportunities presented themselves in the 4 years after the release, when television programs such as Dawson’s Creek, Hack, Party of Five, and a made for television movie called Fast Food High all used songs in their programming.
Veterans of the stage, The Ashgrove have shared spots with the Headstones, 54-40, the Killjoys, Danko Jones, Rymes with Orange, See Spot Run and international recording artists K’s Choice, Vertical Horizon, the Verve Pipe while promoting Photo Album and their debut release Somnambulant. The band has also been invited to showcase at prestigious events such as NXNE and Canadian Music Week.
With the release of their latest cd, 1000 Summers the Ashgrove are currently booking shows and playing live in support of this release, which can be described as a modern rock guitar record, with a focus on strong lead vocals based on a 1970’s “album” feel.
