Bio

Born out of the broken soil, broken tongues, and broken hearts of the great Texas expanse,The Atlantic Messenger emerged with clenched fists toward the heavens. What began as a simply solo project starring Johnny Red quickly expanded to incorporate the talent of Stewart Speakeasy and Kathleen Funki. Drawing inspiration from the great folk forefathers, Bob Dylan, Eliot Smith, and Johnny Cash, and paradoxically intertwining them with artists like Broken Social Scene, Death Cab for Cutie, and Bloc Party, The Atlantic Messenger has created a sound often hailed as "unparalleled low-fi heart-wrenching poetry." The Atlantic Messenger is the indie folk sound that’s unspoiled by gimmicks and flashy production. This multi-instrumentalist trio, led by songwriter Johnny Red, tells true-to-life stories of history, travels, and the life of a struggling poor musician. Though the scratchy lo-fi recordings leave something to be desired, it may very well be the (lack of) quality in the earnest and unforgiving, straightforward seediness that leaves a big impression on the heavy-hearted.
